So, a friend of mine was troubled by blogger's new requirement to sign in with a google account to check blogs marked for adult content (such as mine).

He asked me if perhaps I shouldn't get my own site, instead of keeping my blog tied to blogger, not only to avoid this requirement, but to possibly improve the presentation and offering of the blog (like, adding a forum, for example). I wanted to know if people had any interest in me getting a proper website, before thinking about it further.

I think it's a question of effort versus reward. On the one side, building and hosting your own site takes time and money and I don't think a forum would really be helpful when there's already the Discord community. On the other side, getting away from bigger sites that can change their stance on NSFW content on a whim (their own or their payment processor's) does sound enticing. And considering the size of your games, hosting a wiki might be a good idea.

For sure. I can't say how many people would be interested in browsing such a website, which factors heavily on the "reward" side of the equation, hence the poll. I am still very much tied to Patreon as is, though, so if there is ever a payment processor push, I figure it would hit me no matter what. It's more about some possible quality of life stuff and presentation improvements over my current blog.

You should make a website. It's easy. It let's you present your finished works. It gives you some control. And assuming you want to sell the final product, it gives you home to do that (outside of the usual stores). In short, it makes your whole effort more professional and real. But secondly, you shouldn't add a forum. Because that just means you'll have to police a forum. And no-one wants that. Just link discord.

I second the "no forum, yes wiki" approach.

The payment processors really hate hypnokink, so they are likely going to be a problem for you eventually. If you have your own website, you've at least got a start on dealing with that when it happens.

Professional? But my brand is "charming amateur, who's always late"! XD Joking aside, I see why a forum wouldn't be worthwhile, as people rightfully pointed out.

Well, the big split is whether or not what I do is kosher on Patreon. As long as that holds true, I can't imagine getting in any significant trouble, while if that happens, the worry would be if other "fund raising" platforms would follow suit leaving me stranded. Basically, I don't think having my website is a good protection for the stuff that matters the most, although it should address other issues as usability, presentation, and other such things.

Whatever helps keep your work from being censored by payment processors is good to me. 👍

Well, I don't think my own website would change much on that front, if it were to happen. It's more about maybe stepping up from the basic blog, and avoiding unnecessarily letting google know if you are reading an adult blog, at most. XD
