Back in December, we thrilled you with the first 20 years of Bowser's history. And, given that he's nearly at the "lordy, lordy" stage of his life, we still have a few more decades to discuss. On this episode of Retronauts, join Bob Mackey, Henry Gilbert, and Drew Mackie (of Gayest Episode Ever) as the crew discusses that large lizard's adventures in the 21st century.

You say last-minute, but Bob referenced E3 so much it felt like it was recorded at a time where it still had a chance of happening. 😅

Henry's story about his engagement and subsequent wedding brought a smile to my face. I initially held the same attitude towards Bowser Jr., strongly reminiscent of all those soulless baby variants of US cartoons from the 80s (though I must say, the kids' version of Scooby-Doo remains the only version of the franchise I've ever been able to get into, and Tiny Toons was my favorite cartoon series before The Simpsons left their gigantic imprint on me). And it didn't necessarily help that Bowser Jr. was closely associated with the rather infamous Super Mario Sunshine for a while. But over time, the little nuisance grew on me. After Nintendo nearly muzzled him for a while in terms of notable dialogues, I particularly appreciated his characterizations in Paper Mario: The Origami King and Bowser's Fury, portraying him as a cheeky rascal who genuinely loves and admires his father but can also drive him up the wall. In fact, the ending of Bowser's Fury reveals that the entire plot was set in motion because Junior was looking forward to a vacation with his father, who ended up sleeping all day instead. It would be nice if Nintendo continued to explore this relationship, as it sheds light on another side of Bowser (and his parenting philosophy, as The Origami King showed).

Bowser Jr grew on me as well. I loved in NSMB Wii when he's taunting you and doesn't realize his airship is taking off without him.

When I first saw the ep title I thought to myself "Dang...Bob already ran out of ideas and was one step away from doing the Baby Mario episode"

The sweetness of Henry's wedding melted my heart to the point where I almost forgot about his smug, needlessly obstinate opinions.

surely we can say a nice thing about Henry without saying something mean?
