Oh hi, Diamond here. We're getting this one out just under the wire because I didn't want to release two monthly podcasts in a row in the following month, but this year September ends on a Saturday so I had to get creative with the scheduling. I hope you enjoy this conversation with Stu as a prelude to Spooky Season because we talk about ghosts, skeletons, and Smurfs.

Specific games mentioned in this episode include:

  • Castlevania: Rondo of Blood (aka Dracula X Chronicles on PSP or Requiem on PS4)
  • Tekken 7 & 8
  • Mortal Kombat 1 (2023)
  • Les Schtroumpfs
  • Um Jammer Lammy Now!
  • Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord
  • Pictures at an Exhibition (not a game, an album by Isao Tomita)

Art (photo source) & edits by Diamond. Music heard in this episode:

  • 13:36 "THE SINKING OLD SANCTUARY" (Castlevania: Bloodlines)
  • 21:27 "Techno Syndrome 2021" (Mortal Kombat)
  • 30:39 a 41-year-old Smurfs commercial
  • 34:54 "Power Off! Power On!" (Um Jammer Lammy)
  • 45:29 Tim Follin's title theme for the unreleased Time Trax
  • 51:21 "Theme of Wesker" (Marvel vs Capcom 3)
  • 1:00:08 "The Final Confrontation" (Black Rain)
  • 1:05:53 "The Part Where He Kills You" (Portal 2)
  • 1:18:07 "Sigma Palace Stage 2" (Mega Man Maverick Hunter X)
  • Finale: "Mercenaries: Wesker's Theme" (RE Resident Evil 4)

I was able to make a trip to Tokyo years ago to complete the place I wanted to travel to most due to video games. I blame Mystical Ninja starting Goemon for the N64! The settings from the “Edo period” drew me in and captured my imagination like no other game before it. My wife and I visited Tokyo, but I still want to return and see more of the country side and visit Osaka. Sadly, we had another trip planned for March 2020… The disappointment of canceling the trip still makes it tough to play Yakuza! To be fair, attempting to get into Yakuza for the first time after canceling and being stuck at home wasn’t my best move. Running around virtual Tokyo just wasn’t the same. Stu, you’ve really got to go. Tokyo is amazing!

I've only ever played a few minutes of Daytona USA but if I ever find myself around Florida I'll make sure to take a detour to Daytona Beach, if only to see if I can hear a loud "Daytonaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa" while going around the streets.
