Before I vanish from the face of the earth to deal with holiday obligations, I wanted to drop this latest episode of Retronauts Micro. You can think of this as a sort of continuation of Monday's post: Same session, same lineup. But this is the real reason I invited Chris Sims to join us. He's coauthoring a comic book series (published by Dynamite Comics) about Atari's absolutely fascinating SwordQuest series for the Atari 2600. In addition to learning more about the games, this episode will hopefully also answer other nagging questions, such as "How the heck is SwordQuest getting a revival 35 years after withering on the vine?" Enjoy, and have a lovely holiday. — Jeremy

Description: Jeremy and Benj discuss the history of Atari's fascinating, extravagant, and incomplete SwordQuest series with (literally!) one of the authors of the game's new comeback: Comics scribe Chris Sims.

the only truly appropriate music for this episode is in fact Hawkwind <3

There's no SwordQuest soundtrack to speak of, but the Chronicle of the Black Sword seemed like a close second.

Glad to see the Micros continue their almost full length episode lengths. (This was a really cool episode on something I missed out on, being 2 at the time.)

The Swordquest campaign is indeed a bonkers side note in gaming history. Thank you for approaching this hard to believe topic! The Atari comics are right in my favorite era of american comic book artwork and I love the style of George Perez at his psychedelic, fantasy best. And I especially enjoy the Retronauts episodes that manage to connect games into what else was happening culturally at the time. The Swordquest interconnection between comics, D&D and games is fun to explore and I hope we can see more cross medium examinations of this style in the future! :)
