Look, I know. We've talked about Metroid before. More than once. But how often is it that you can slot an episode right at the midpoint between a franchise's 35th anniversary and the release of its first proper sequel in 19 years? Especially when said franchise is so well loved by the cast and crew? Sometimes, it's worth retracing our steps just to revel in what got us started on this whole thing in the first place.

Jeremy Parish, Ray Barnholt, Shivam Bhatt, and Shane Bettenhausen convene to celebrate Metroid's 35th anniversary AND the finale (?) of the series with Metroid Dread by looking back at all that Samus Aran brought to gaming. Turns out it's a lot!

Great episode. Perhaps the thing I'm looking forward to the most after the game itself is finding out how young(er) people will react to a new 2D Metroid game. Anecdotally, it seems that the new generation who grew up on the Castlevania DS games, Guacamelee, Hollow Knight, etc. doesn't quite hold up Super Metroid in as high regard, and I've seen many people opine that Samus Returns is the best 2D Metroid game. Also, I loved the banter between Shane and the other people about remaking Metroid II: (Paraphrasing) "I really want Nintendo to remake Return of Samus." "But they have!" "No, I mean like in 3D." "It's in 3D!" "No, like 3D-3D." "It's on the 3DS!" 😂

AM2R is the best 2D Metroid... possibly Zero Mission
