Alright, this is it: The last chance I'm giving you to take a breath with one of these light, frothy, movie-focused podcast episodes. From here on out, most of the rest of 2021 is going to be some pretty intensive anniversary episodes... lots of them with a value of "20" factoring into the equation. But before we do, here's a celebration of the recent culmination of the years of public demand for Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World: The Game to be relisted. In light of its recent reissue, and the 10th anniversary of the movie adaptation this month, we've gone and talked about all of it (and the comics, too).

Edits by Greg Leahy, art by Nick Wanserski.

I think you underrate the "Scott learns the power of self-respect" moment in the movie. It's not about him being awesome. The first time he fights Gideon, he loses because he's screwed things up with Knives and Ramona and the band, who clearly don't want to be there. When he comes back, he immediately apologizes to the band, and Kim in particular; learns the power of self-respect; and then comes clean to Knives and Ramona. It's only then that they can defeat Gideon. It's not particularly deep, but it's there. The books spend a lot of time on Scott working through his shit, whereas the movie shoehorns it into the awesome final bossfight scene of violence and flashing lights and combo counters and what was I talking about again? The one character who actually gets a satisfying emotional arc in the movie is Knives, whose kiss-off line "I'm too cool for you" is *so* great. This really makes me want to reread the books again. Cheers!
