While chocobos have become the dominant Final Fantasy mascot over the past three decades, moogles don't receive quite as much attention as Square's feathered friends. In some games, they're simply part of the world, while in other games, they're relegated to references and tutorial sections. But what are these strange mole/bat, creatures, where did they come from, and how has Square used (or underused) these little scamps over time? On this episode, join Bob Mackey, Jeremy Parish, Chris Kohler, and Henry Gilbert as the crew traces the moogle mythology from 1990 to 2021. It'll be more exciting than a game of Mog House!

What an unexpected treat for a Monday morning. Moogle Monday begin, kupo!

Really excited for the Breath Of Fire episode. I was waiting for the original FF Tactics to be mentioned because technically, a moogle does appear. The weakest summoner spell is Moogle in the menu and Mogri when you actually summon it, and features a little curled up moogle art to hover over your party and heal light damage. Also, there are these weird little pig demon things called uribos that look like Great Value moogles. And just so I'm not only showing up to "Well actually", I'm absolutely team Mog from FFVI. Not a primary party member, but definitely secondary. Mog and Umaro are both very underrated.

When FF III/VI was released in the states, I remember being desperately disappointed because my Mom wouldn't buy me any moogle merch on account of it being "too girly." Damned you, 90's U.S. gender norms.

That synthesizer joke... really hit me

What a terrific curve ball episode, love this detailed analysis into something no one would ever attempt to analyze. Only way episode could have been better is if Vestal was on it

Man, that ending song, though... Gotta get it.

As a fan of moombas and FFTA2, all I can say is... "whatever." (The part I really don't like about moombas is that they're one of the potential metamorphic forms for the Shumi, a race of beings that could not be less adorably-small-mammal-like.)

Good episode, I only have one thing to add. If you play Theatrhythm Curtain Call the Moogles are commentators for the versus mode. They have actual voice acting for it, and the voice actors literally say "kupo". As in "You've taken the lead, kupo". It's distracting but otherwise the voice actor is decent.

Part of me wishes that a Moogle had been the Final Fantasy rep for Smash Bros.

Great episode, guys! I have one piece of fan-made Moogle merchandise myself. It's a pearler bead... thingy... of the moogle sprite from Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories that I got at a convention. Which... speaking of! Moogles are the only consistent element of the Final Fantasy series to appear in every single KH game, even the ones where the FF presense is the most muted. My favorite appearance by them is in KH 358/2 Days on the DS where they show up wearing cute little Organization XIII cloaks.
