Greetings and salutations and please to enjoy this final podcast for 2017! (Unless I manage to pull together Monday's episode a bit in advance.) This one centers on Squaresoft's PS1 fighting games, all five (!) of them. That's really quite a lot for a company focused on RPGs. But you'll find the company's role-playing roots aren't entirely removed here…

Description: Ah, yes, Squaresoft… the company that only made RPGs. Right? Well. During the PlayStation era, the company's output was all over the place — and that includes the FIVE fighting games it published. All good, all unique! Jeremy & Ben look back at them all.

Great episode and really fun topic! I tried Tobal back in the day and remember thinking that the graphics were poor compared to Toshinden and Tekken. Ironically enough, the Tobal games have aged so much better. And today I love the quirky character designs. I did not spend enough time with Tobal to learn it's gameplay, but I've been hoping for a Power Stone or similarly styled 3D fighter to make a glorious return on the Switch. Bushido Blade seems to be the definition of a gaming cult classic. Everyone that ever tried it seem to have a lasting obsession and it's a tantalizing thought to imagine a modern day sequel, with advanced simulation of wounds, damaged limbs and other physics. Despite the awesome setting, "realistic" samurai games have been oddly underrepresented and I loved the vibe of the original Tenchu for the same reason.

Is there such a thing as Retronauts Micro *77*? EDIT: Okay, it's not easily findable via search because of the post/URL naming, but it's here: https://twitter.com/retronauts/status/944261682678788097
