It took my son's diagnosis and seeing him struggle with his reading comprehension about the same time I had for me to realize that I needed to get tested. Best decision of my life.

When covid hit I was having issues working from home so I was tested for adhd but was told I was just depressed from less human contact but after a year my family doc had me tested one more because I had the same issues of having issues starting work and keeping on tasks...I was told I was probably a functioning adhd person but some how my old tools were not working for me any more and/or my issues changed because of my age...Meds are helping me to get through the day but still trying to find new tools to help me get started on tasks and keep my interest in the work

I read an explanation of the term "executive dysfunction" and it was like 30 years of my life suddenly snapped into focus.

There was a conversation in high school w/ friends from girl scouts explaining how ADD came in two sorts: the hyper kind like S had or the spacey kind like G had (which was half a joke, since G was obsessed w/ space) and I thought, "oh, is that what that's called." Sadly it was another four or five years before I mentioned this to my parents (who I assumed must know this stuff already) & they started reading up on it & got my brother diagnosed, since he had a much harder time with schoolwork than I did.

A colleague of mine was on to me when he noticed I always finished my tasks at the very last moment 😱.
