Makes perfect sense to me.... I think this is definitely a winning idea for a a video... I am already imagining 'alternate universe Jessica' wearing a really fun hat, being very excitable, where as wise Jessica is more calm...

How to ADHD

I got confused while I was explaining it lol, but now instead of regular Jessica/alternate universe Jessica, in which regular Jessica is the wise one, it’s going to be regular Jessica/future Jessica, in which future Jessica is the wise one because she’s lived through the experience of trying (and failing terribly) at picking up the ukelele — and she travels back in time to spare regular Jessica the nightmare she had to live through :) This will...hopefully make a lot more sense when we shoot it 😂

I had no trouble following the vlog, all made perfect sense to me... I was with you the whole time... Was I supposed to be confused ?? :-)

How to ADHD

Oh okay I just wasn’t sure if it was clear that there is no alternate universe Jessica anymore, just current and future Jessica :) But future Jessica is going to be wearing futuristic clothes. It’ll be fun!

Finally got my diagnosis today! Tomorrow is my first day on meds (Vyvanse), here's hoping all goes well! The reason that it even occured to me that I might have ADHD is stumbling across your TEDx talk, so thank you so much. You have changed my life.

How to ADHD

also, an official "welcome to the tribe!" is in order :D WELCOME TO THE TRIBE!!

Hopeful for the future. I had to drop out of college after 1 semester due to ADHD, so now I should be able to get my life back on track!

This scares me a bit how many ADHD people have failed or dropped out of college. But I'm glad to hear people's stories because it lets me know what I'm up against. Since I'll be heading there in the nearish future, I'm concerned about my ability to handle it.

Also, I'm glad things are looking up for you Benjamin.

Thank you so much for this one (and all the vlogs, actually. It's really interesting to see the creative process!). What I wanted to say is that this just made me realise how tough it must be at times like this one ---- but you keep on going and show your work and and it helps to make it better! Maybe it's super easy for others but I personally struggle with communicating/showing what I'm working on (to the point where I almost didn't finish university). Revelation time!

The word you are looking for is the juxtaposition of the old you verses the new you. I learned that at Columbus College of Art and Design. Some other things I have learned is to step back away from your work and try to look at it from a distance. You did it by having Edward look it over. An English class I took said to write first, then re-write it or believe this or not read it backwards. I did papers in that class that I had 4 to 5 versions of the paper from re-writing. I learned that writing is a process. We also had other people read our papers and comment on them. Again you did this by running by Edward. It is nice to see what it takes for one episode you make for a video. It is not like you just start shooting it. You follow a professional process that works well for the two of you. Oh, I love be the dog park and camera, that was way too cool.

Oh it took me a couple of years to understand the true meaning of juxtaposition. However, I am computer geek by trade and the art was my hobby.

If you're aware that you have ADHD, you're already one step ahead of most of us (esp if you have meds). It is definitely harder with ADHD, but it is far from impossible. Good luck!!!

Will the future version of you have gray hair from everything the current version has put you through?

How to ADHD

Omg that would be hilarious. I don’t know how to make that work but it would be amazing

How to ADHD

Yeah I put probably way too much work into every episode (fellow perfectionist in recovery ;) ) but I decided early on that the videos needed to be entertaining, easy to understand *and* provide accurate science-based info on ADHD and that’s a lot harder than it looks. A lot of the time I’m trying to translate really dense scientific studies into something that everyone can relate to. It’s been worth it, though. :D

This is so honest! Thank you! You are working so hard to lay your creative process bare and it's been helping me a LOT.

Those words of the famous writer you quoted /paraphrased about when he looks at something created in one sitting and something else that he had to rewrite many times, and now he can't tell the difference - that's so poignant, I want to put it on my wall (as a poster, maybe). As well as what James Thurber (The New Yorker cartoonist, writer, etc) said: I'm not a writer; I'm a rewriter.
