So... I'm going through the past content as a recent patreon person thingy and the "bribe" of an ice cream sundae made me literally LOL. My husband bribed me out of the house and on a motorcycle ride earlier today with basically the same thing, a promise of local and yummy ice cream. Thank you for sharing moments like this!

Hi Jessica, Edward and the Brain Board, would you consider doing an episode about Driving Safety for people with ADHD? I have a "friend" who gets distracted in her car and once accidentally ran a red light while thinking about something else. I think it's quite a challenge when you feel under-stimulated while driving to convince yourself not to multi-task with technology, cosmetics, or doing other tasks, even though clearly the safety of the driver, passengers and everyone else on the road is of ultimate importance. Sadly, I've read that ADHD Brains have a higher incidence of car accidents and that statistic seems logical. Thank you so much for all of the good that you are doing!!! You have helped me (and my friends) so much! :-)

How to ADHD

Hi Clarice! Yes! Actually that's an episode I've been wanting to do for awhile now -- just need to convince someone who makes cars to sponsor it, because it is a big issue for ADHDers and I want to do it right. Stick shift (manual transmission) cars are supposed to be a good option for ADHDers to keep us focused on driving, so I'd like to borrow one to test it out as an option, and I'd also like to hire a driving instructor to talk about ADHD-specific solutions and maybe even film some do's and don'ts reenactments. Long story short, it's an important episode and definitely on my radar :)

How to ADHD

Oh, and one that definitely affects me personally. I got in plenty of accidents before I learned how not to hit things, and while it's been a few years since I've been in one I still get distracted while driving.

Hi Jessica, that's wonderful!!! (your ideas for the episode!) I was also thinking that sleep difficulties can have a big effect on safe driving. I feel like a superhero with my creative ADHD brain, but I need to be careful because I can also be dangerous. :-)

Here's some info about drowsy driving from UCLA. They blame young males who are sleepy for their "lifestyle and behavior choices". I don't think they are considering ADHD or don't quite understand it! http://sleepcenter.ucla.edu/drowsy-driving

How to ADHD

Lol agreed! Thanks for the study, I'll check it out! Yeah I think a lot of traditional driving advice doesn't work for ADHD brains (except for keep a safe distance between you and the car in front of you. DEFINITELY recommend!) If I'm not fidgeting with something or listening to a podcast or something engaging, I'm likely to get distracted by a billboard or whatever else can take my eyes off the road. And yeah, ADHD brains getting sleepy can be an issue too, for a number of reasons (meds wore off, we forgot to take them, we didn't sleep well, we didn't plan well when we decided to wake up at 8am and stay out til 2 in the morning...) I think it's such a serious topic it's embarrassing to admit that we struggle with it, which means no opportunities for discussion and solution-finding. Really looking forward to bringing this one to the talking table.

I agree, it's a tough and embarrassing topic! Since I ran the red light without noticing it last week (augh!), I have to admit to myself, its also super important! I've been realizing over the last year that I've been a speed demon because I'm often running late, plus the speed limit is just so "boring". Someone yelled at me in our neighborhood for driving fast 6 months ago, and that shook me up enough (and provided enough stimulation) that I've been "good" ever since. And the truth is I would never, ever want to hurt anyone!
