So, I finished the editing, got the cover, and did the layout for the book.

Now, the initial novel was going to weight in at 151,672 words, not counting dedications, afterword, and the 'must have' first pages.

I loaded into Kindle. No problem. I did the paperback. No apparent problem.

Then I tried the hardback.

Then I hit everything.

Everything went wrong.

KDP didn't want to do paperback OR hardback. Both errored out as 'too large' and wouldn't move forward. I talked to customer support and can't get any further.

So, apparently, I need to shave some stuff off of it. At first, I included Ullmo'ok and his bashmech fighters because I really like them. Now, it looks like I'll have to cut them out and return them to the Arena to wait until the second book.

According to the customer service rep I talked to for several hours, they told me to try to avoid going over 130K words. Apparently the pricing on a 150K word paperback would be $14.99 just to get $1 for my side with a minimum price of $12.99.

So, that just means that I have to do a little extra work, get it all done, and reupload it.

It might be delayed, but I'll still have out:

Kindle
Paperback
Hardback

all before the first.

So, dear readers, pray for me as I undertake this arduous journey to bring everything to print.

UPDATE EDIT: Well, I managed to take care of it. Wow, it was still crazy, but we've got Kindle, paperback, and hardback.

But wow, the hardbacks are expensive. Of course, it's weighing in at over 450 pages. I'm happy that I kept it cheaper than a tabletop RPG hardback, but I still cringe at the price, even  cutting it down as far as I did.

Perhaps later, when I have the time and cash to buy galley proofs over and over till I get it right and the ability to pay someone to do layout for me. I know I've tossed around the idea of an omnibus version to my wife, but looking at it, it would cost me nearly $35 a book to print at anything 750 pages and above. It gets pretty steep.

So, there's gonna be another surprise by Monday, providing nothing gets held up.
