There was a comparable journalist to Reed during Mao’s rise in China, Edgar Snow. I suppose he is not as famous as Reed in the west because he wasn’t there when Mao seized power. Everyone in China knows his name though, since he was the one westerner who gave a sympathetic account of the early CCP.
