As far as I’m concerned Chasten deserves what he gets. He married a soulless ghoul, you can’t argue that Pete isn’t like that. It’s obvious from every interaction that he’s not human. They’ve also weaponised homosexuality, for political gain. They deserve each other.

“He’s trying to work out who he is through a presidential campaign” wow! BTW “Perfect Day” was heard much on the airwaves and in political shows during the 1997 UK general election, so maybe that’s where it got a political reputation.

I'm reluctant to empathize with political spouses in general. By this point, and at the level of a presidential candidate especially, the spouse is just the kinder, gentler face of the same coin. Chasten is great at that role and knows it. However, a good political spouse is also a protective one. Talking about thoughts of self-harm in front of a camera was a very strange choice, and I struggle to find a flattering reason for it. If your concern is for your partner's well-being, you don't expose their deep wounds to the world like that. If your goal is to make people empathize with your partner, I can't think of a more craven way to do it. Either way, don't run for president as a newlywed holy shit.
