A former prickly TV personality tries to become a better man... a former president tries to refine his brand... on the pilot episode of the stupefyingly dull Netflix talk show MY NEXT GUEST NEEDS NO INTRODUCTION... WITH DAVID LETTERMAN (2018), the onetime innovator of late night is joined by Barack Obama for a gruelling conversation. PLUS: batten down the hatches for Ron Howard's "Hillbilly Elegy."

I can think of one way Ron Howard could make this adaptation interesting: he sets it in Mayberry and all its residents are Trump dead-enders now. Also though Obama’s kite-surfing pics with Branson are bad enough, did you know he also vacationed with Tom Hanks?! https://www.businessinsider.com/obama-oprah-tom-hanks-and-bruce-springsteen-vacation-2017-4 Truly, it’s a problem that youngish Western leaders expect to live like multimillionaires after they leave office. One senses that the worst fate they can imagine is having the CEOs who used to kiss up to them look down on them once the patina and trappings of power are gone. It clearly affects the choices they make while they govern.
