A Democratic National Convention takes place against a backdrop of protests against American imperial atrocities overseas... that's right, we're travelling back in time to 1968 with Haskell Wexler's MEDIUM COOL (1969). PLUS: So, have you heard about the DNC?

I want to humble myself before the entire Michael and Us nation and apologize for splitting the left vote with my untimely nomination of Blue Collar. While a great film, I now realize that it was Medium Cool’s “turn” in this, the DNC in Chicago season. Truly an act of unforgivable hubris on my part and I hope that I will be able to regain this community’s trust. Luckily, this is not the United States government, and _our_ unaccountable appointed authorities corrected this electoral injustice. I will now call in to Air America and apologize to Al Gore, as Haskell Wexler is no longer with us.

Joking aside, really great episode. I was lucky enough to see Wexler talk about the movie here in Chicago a number of years ago. I think your contrasting of the incisiveness of Medium Cool with what’s currently on offer is right on the money.

Hello fellow travelers. I am currently amongst the lumpen waiting for academic labor. I nevertheless propose a film, friend of the pod Tom Hanks’ 1996 Cold War nostalgia classic “That Thing You Do.” Ttyd is a timeless celebration of white American pop music and youth panic. In spite of the movies’ own apparent intentions, Tom Hanks plays a satanic proxy qua music producer who infiltrates the hearts and minds of young boys, who modestly dreamed of nothing more than fabulous wealth and stardom. Will they make it to the top? Tune in to find out! Love you fellas. Also do an episode on Stalker! Luke it’s also been turned into a cult videogame classic!
