Whenever we need a pick-me-up, we return to one of our favourite topics: THE DINOSAUR HOUR, John Cleese's baffling chat show for Britain's right-wing GB News network. In the two episodes we watched today, Cleese opines on creativity, then welcomes his good friend Rob Schneider (!) for an agonizing hourlong chat. PLUS: What happens to the Republican Party after Trump? And checking in on Aaron Sorkin.

The failure of GB News is quite fascinating to me. You would think there is a huge audience for that kind of channel because there is so much culture war bullshit in the print media and the ranks of the "facebook conspiracy boomers" seem to grow with each passing day but it never really got much traction. I'm sure someone smarter than me has written about it, but my theory is that the British right don't actually like anyone, even right wing personalities, they are just furious at a vaguely defined concept of political correctness/"wokeness" so there's no equivalent of Hannity or Carlson here for them to build it around. Farage has nowhere near the popularity of Trump for example, even though he says everything they want to hear and got them the Brexit they've wanted for years and Trump never delivered on the border wall.

As the boys debate their next Sorkin project, I think the answer is an obvious one – 'Sports Night'! The great man's first TV show, it would provide a most fascinating study in where his ideologies were when his august career began. It is, however, a two-season, 45-episode commitment, so it would still be an undertaking.
