Organ meat. Can't do it. My friend from Yokohama is a gracious host, and one day offered to take me for a real treat with some friends! A real "delicacy." (There's the tip off, right there.) Cow tongue. I hate to think it was regarded as childish, but I apologized profusely, laughing at myself, and begged forgiveness. I couldn't do it. If I embarrassed myself privately in that moment, then I'd have made a total fool of myself had I been there in front of a crowd. I'll take the small embarrassment. Cow tongue... My mother used to enjoy pickled cow tongue when I was a kid. Just opening the refrigerator door and seeing that horror show in a jar sent me in the opposite direction. Likewise, liver, chicken hearts, intestine, and all that stuff. Not happening. Clapping at a shrine... I've done the whole ritual of cleansing the hands, the clapping, bowing, the incense, etc. No problem, there.
