Well, here you go - who would have guessed that the last post would create so much interest in an SSK and the right way to do one - not to be confused of course, with the way that I do one. There's several types and ways to execute this noble left leaning decrease, and different knitters get different results depending on their tension, needle handling, yarn and technique.  You can experiment with these and choose a favourite.  Some of us, me included switch up how we do them depending on where they are, or what the yarn demands. There's no wrong way to SSK, as long as it leans left (like me) you're good!

I think I'm a baby knitter - I was definitely not doing SSKs correctly!

Thank you for this! I'm a mirror knitter and tried it for my right leaning decrease and it is great to have options. Thanks for the history lesson, I thought the difference was more cultural; I'm sure there is some of that too, but the 1970's wasn't all that long ago in the history of knitting.
