Happy last day of June everyone, and Happy Pride. Here's part three of the sock class - Joe pointed out to me today that these "episodes"  are creeping longer and longer, this one's just over an hour and I can see that now that  I'm in a space where I make (most) of the rules I'll have to curb that instinct or soon they'll be hours long. The perils of a topic I never tire of, I suppose. That said,  they take a lot of time to produce as they get longer and longer, and I've started wondering what you prefer... bigger chunks of information a little less often, or smaller more frequent bites?  A mix?

This part of the class takes you from wherever you decided to finish the leg through the heel, the gussets, and because I can do as I please now - the foot as well. We'll regroup for toes. (You know, outside of this Patreon I'm not sure how exciting the sentence "we'll regroup for toes" would be, but here I know you're as thrilled as I am.)

In the video, when I talk about patterns for the heel flap, I say that you can do whatever you like on this little square and it's entirely true. Colourwork, patterns - anything at all.  I also say that I'll give you the two most common heel stitches in the notes, and so here they are.

Heel Stitch or Sturdy Stitch (like atop like)

Right Side Rows: *Slip one, knit one, repeat from * across. (Always begin with a slip and end with a knit.)

Wrong side rows: Slip one, purl across.

Eye of Partridge (like counter like)

Row one: *Slip one, knit one, repeat from * across. (Always begin with a slip and end with a knit)

Row two: (wrong side rows): Slip one, purl across.

Row three: Slip one, *slip one, knit one, repeat from * to the last stitch, knit. (Row three begins with two slips and ends with two knits.)

Row four: Slip one, purl across.

-----------------------------------------

The yarns you see in this episode are Regia Pairfect Rainbow colour (the wide stripes) and Ancient Arts "lichen in my crevices" (the grey one with the pretty bits.)

There... did I promise you anything else? Do let me know if I've forgotten anything, or if you have any questions. This is such a new way for me to be with all of you - I hope it's working and it feels like a good value. I'm hoping it will only keep getting better.

Sorry about the hair.

I am knitting socks for my husband, who has a high instep. I'm going to add a couple extra heel flap rows to accommodate that, but how do I know how many is enough? I'd rather not have to pick up all the stitches and knit the whole gusset so he can try it on without making a complete guess as to whether or not I have added the correct number of heel flap rows.

Wow! I have made so many socks and yet I am learning so much! The game changers for me: how to test the gauge swatch, the ladder avoiding trick, picking up along the gusset, and the HOLE! This subscription has paid for itself already and I’m only a couple of videos in!
