Thinking of using this Patreon also as something of an authorial newsletter, which is something I'm told all the cool authors have. I was thinking of posting original work; would you guys be interested in dissecting a thing like that? I don't usually get many comments on here, but maybe if I said concrit welcome or something...

I suppose I could also add some personal tidbits. Well, I came up with this premise that as far as I'm concerned, is a clear winner. There are specifics, but the basic idea is that the protagonist wakes up--page one--they're tied to a chair, their lover is also tied up, and a killer has the proverbial gun to the head. He says "listen, the woman you love is going to die in seven hours, UNLESS you help me murder five people." And that scene basically keeps going, in real-time, for the rest of the novel.

And I thought that's at least a Netflix movie. I'm brainstorming all the crazy scenarios that can happen over the course of the story. And I propose it to a publisher, say who the characters are going to be and all that. It's not really a pitch anymore, you have to fill out like a spreadsheet, which I think is dumb.

But they say they like it, more or less, but have you considered doing this? And then they propose an entirely different story. I'm not comparing myself to Spielberg, but can you imagine Spielberg pitching Jurassic Park and the studio head goes "sounds nice, but do they have to go to Jurassic Park? What if they went to wine country?"

And they've been asking me for normie shit, man. This is as mainstream as it gets. It's cops and robbers. No robots, no zombies. I mean, I know James Patterson sells well, but people buy other books.

That’s crazy, man. Even crazier is if they’re 100% sincere. That premise (or at least that hook) sounds pretty damn interesting, too, if I can say
