I'm at the Jaehyun part you were asking about his more expressive shift. It started around the time that he went on walk with Taeyong and they had a really good talk. Both posted pictures of the place on their instagrams. The ones where they're at a lake and garden. It was mentioned as a healing experience for him. I can't remember if it was either in the last couple of group vlives or Taeyong solo live. Sorry. lol

So Doyoung came back because he was in charge of all the adlibs and the background vocals of “Magic Carpet Ride” He is the only one credited for that on the album 🥰

it was director Yoo Young jin who sang the demo, he's like the highest man up on sm next to Lee Soo Man. He produced and composed a lot of songs for the sm artists we know today. He sang a song with Kyungsoo, 'Tell me what is Love'.

Jaehyun seemed really happy this comeback I agree, he was like this during rookies a lot. But honestly, you would see glimpses of his goofiness and cuteness throughout, But I feel like this comeback he was being so authentically himself.

It was Director Yoo Younjin who sang the demo. Director Yoo Young Jin is actually a singer-songwriter too. Besides as an amazing Producer. He is also a vocal coach for some SM Trainee/Idol that picked by himself. Usually it based ion the unique vocal tone (mostly RnB vibes). whoever picked by Director Yoo is the special one in terms of vocal tone. Such as BoA, D.O EXO. , Winter aespa, Changmin TVXQ. It was mentioned that taeil is one of them , but there is no official statement yet

If u are wondering who is Mr Yoo, he is the one who sing the demo and he is SM in house producer and he also been in SM since SM established. It is known that the songs he produced is really hard to sing. For example, aespa Savage.

Off topic: Just wondering, Jeff have you already heard some of NCT 127's past b-side tracks? specifically their song BACK 2 U. Because in TAEYONG's recent fanmeet call he mentioned that their comeback song "Favorite" would kind of have the same vibe with that, I guess because of the R&B. So I'm just curious if you know that song. ☺️ Btw, it's literally my favorite NCT127 b-side track! It's a masterpiece and their LIVE performance is a MUST! 💚💚

Mr Director Yoo was famous rnb singer in 90s under SM Ent. He is with Sm since it was established and now hes producer of many songs such as like Ring Ding Don, Simon Says, Next Level, Bad Boy etc He has so many credits for Sm songs. You might be right that Doyoung’s voice gets exhausted faster than Taeil or Haechan. But based off other Uncut Recording videos, I have always gotten the impression that Doyoung’s recording sessions tend to be longer than the other NCT members. I have heard a few times Doyoung apologizing to the member recording after him for making them wait. I think I have heard him say he often takes a while. So that may also play a part in his voice sounding more exhausted.

In the middle of watching your reaction but I just wanted to comment — you might be right about Doyoung, at least for that point in time! They recorded Sticker quite early in the year (I think?), and from the videos that are more recent, plus all the vocal training he did in order to prepare for his musical, his vocal technique has changed quite a bit. (i.e. him covering Wendy’s When This Rain Stops on his Instagram, and that was even back in April) Honestly my favourite thing to hear are SM vocalists consistently getting better after every comeback; they really put them through the vocal ringer 😂 p.s. I work as a vocal producer, so I can’t help but focus on it lol — he was an incredible singer before, but he’s definitely learned how to access a new part of his voice now, which I love!

Funny you said they had to keep quiet about the songs for so long because Doyoung sort of spoiled Magic Carpet Ride 😂 back in February in Taeyong's VLive he sang a line from it but caught himself 😂 obviously no one knew what it was from (and many thought it was from his collab with Baekhyun) until the track video came out and someone spotted it 😂

I think Doyoung just sings a lot which is why his voice tires out? When he went to record background vocals for Magic Carpet Ride he did a vlive with Taeyong that day and he said he was recording for 4 hours... this was also around the time they were doing loveholic stuff, plus his own birthday concert/collab with baekhyun/drama ost/possibly musical prep so he's just very busy singing all the time!!

Hi Jeff, I agree I don't think the members disliked the song they were intimidated by how hard it would to perform. I think a lot of people misinterpreted their initial reactions. People actually thought Taeil had horrible singing technique. Calling his voice terrible and being skeptical of his ability to sing his part live because it looked like he was fighting for his life in the recording booth. LOL When he was just figuring out how to sing the song while he was recording.

So many of the members have said they were super nervous to be recording with Mr. Yoo cause he is such a legend and a senior and he sang the demo so they had to match up to his strong ass vocals. It was such an honour for them to be getting coached by him so that's a lot of the nerves you are seeing. And for Jaehyun I think for NCT 2020 he had an extreme amount of work to do and pressure because of his drama and neozone album/repackage and then NCT 2020 and his drama he was going through a lot. He always felt like he needed to keep his princely image so his goofy side went away a while ago but I think with his drama getting cut cause of the main lead and things going to shit he probably had a realisation that ppl will love him no matter what and he should just enjoy himself. The drama getting cut affected him especially considering how much he went through to multitask but after he was able to get through that let down and learn from it I think he realised there's no point in holding himself back for anyone just enjoy things as it comes. Especially as NCT 127 had such a long hiatus I think it gave him a much needed break to rethink and maybe rediscover his passions. He went through a couple scandals but fans were still by his side no one cares for his prince image and maybe he's realising that as well. I think the space and break he got from the idol image and music this year really motivated him to just enjoy

Idk if people have said this but Jaehyun is probably just showing his livelier personality now probably because they're a few years into their careers now and SM gives them more freedom to show themselves since they already established a strong fandom. There is this thing some companies do where they make the visuals of the team show this quiet and mysterious image to draw people in with their looks and really try to find out more about them. Jin said that Big Hit wanted him to be like that and he tried to do it the first year or two but then he decided to do whatever he wanted and the company couldn't stop him. If you go back to BTS' debut and first year content, Jin is so different than how he is now. I feel like they tried to do that with Cha Eunwoo and Seungkwan said that Pledis would tell Mingyu to not talk much because he was too handsome and had to maintain his image. Obviously none of this lasted because everyone I mentioned is a crackhead and there's only so much they can suppress.

When they said the song was composed by Director Yoo, that's referring to Yoo Young Jin, who used to be a singer under SM label in the early 90's, and a golden composer who has composed a million huge hits for SM artists since since 1st generation idols. He's a power vocal himself, as you can probably tell from the demo (yes it was him singing in the demo), and he was the one who sang "Tell Me (what is love)" with D.O. So yes, all SM artists have great respect for this man, and it was him outside the studio recording for the members, so although the boys are always well-mannered, they were definitely extra respectful and even nervous when they were recording Sticker, lol.
