I've never doubt SM vocal productions. They (singers/idols) also put their thoughts when recording. I remember in the recent Kun's Weibo live, he said he proposed to switch all his parts in I.O.U (iirc) with Chenle's because he's uncomfortable with the pronunciation he did on his original lines.

They usually have demo guides for their songs. but they allowed and give freedom the artists usually to add their own flavour to it and experiments and have their own artistic choices during recording sessions. (which I'm super glad). Not sure with other companies though. One of the "From Home" songwriter actually uploaded his own cover of the song: (I heard he's also the one who did the demo) https://youtu.be/vh-JZ6QMB2M This kind of content are my favorite in their NCT daily because like what you've said it's not that usual that we get to see the process behind. YESS! I was waiting for this. Besides, I really hope that you can react to NCT Recording Diary, those videos show the process of NCT 2018 recording (when Lucas, Jungwoo and Kun were added), and the Uncut videos of other songs/albums. It is fascinating to see how they have grown so much as an artist.

They do have vocal lessons, but just so they can be better but they don't do vocal preps/lessons for every comeback. They are just given the demo guide/version of the song and the lyrics that have already the members parts and they just study it themselves. During the recording, that's when they sometimes do changes. SM artist are just so good because they are trained to be that way. Hahaah its well known in the industry that SM has probably the best facitilies for idol trainees.

Yes, they are all such amazing singers and I love seeing them go through and try different things in the recording process because it really shows their artistic sides and how much thought and effort they put into their work. P.S. The contacts look great!

Honestly, if they showed the entire recording process the video would be super duper long 🤣🤣 I’m sure they cut out some parts and just highlighted what the fans are familiar of. Like for example when Yuta asked Kun if he sang the chorus and he said he did but they never showed us that he did ahah, they only showed him singing his Chinese parts. I heard that usually each recording, especially if the artist is very meticulous..it takes like closer to an hour maybe even more for EACH (ofc if you have less parts it’ll go sooner) When Yuta and Kun were doing the high and low notes, I’m pretty sure they were stacking harmonies.

Yes it was said earlier but there is the recording diaries done from empathy era. It shows them listening to the demos and is behind the scenes like this. Also Taeil and Renjun have the best vibratos ever. I remember watching the ridin behind and Renjun kept wanting to take his out but if you listen it was kept in and it has always stuck out to me as the best part of that song.

SM is just basically a factory of top notch singers. For me, personally, I don’t think others can top SM vocals (maybe it’s me being biased because I’m an SM stan but after 8 years of being one and I still believe so until now, then that’s a still something? LOL) But this is how their hard works pay off after training. And this is also why I keep saying that SM never debut half-baked artists. Not because SM forces them into it but because the artists themselves strive for the best versions of themselves. Call me crazy but I think that’s just SM family culture. 🙈

Actually they always spend 1-2 hours per member for recording, so for From Home they have to start at 1 AM and maybe end at 12PM or later cause some members may take more time (as Doyoung here or Renjun in Ridin’). I hope that you can watch more NCT Recording Diary and read some side stories too if you have time so that you can understand how they process their songs/their choreos better. Anyway, thank you for your hard work.

Sure they did ^^ and for your question about their vocal lesson, they do have vocal lessons but almost all of them are taught in their training time. After debuting, they can improve their skill (as Baekhyun who is a vocal king but he still goes to vocal class every 3 times a week from 9 or 10 pm till midnight and does ig live sometimes when he gets back from class) or they will have vocal/choreo lessons to do better in their next comeback (as you can find Jaemin Jeno Jisung and Ten learn tapping in 2018).

I think you can really see the professionalism in one of the latest videos were they recorded misfit. Where Mark for example was suggesting things a lot, sungchan was mainly asking what the director thought that could've been better. Its no hate at all to sungchan bc it was his first time ofc but I think it really shows in that time.

Also, if you liked this, I want to also recommend video of seventeen recording, as all their songs are made by woozi you get a whole different vibe. I think there are compilations on youthbe called Woozi in the studio or just Seventeen recording!

there's actually someone who sings the guide, his name is Junny, you can listen to some of his songs, he did cowrite this song and he's been working with a lot of SM artists (he said so in an interview and since i don't know exactly which songs he cowrote for them i'm not gonna say anything). His vocal is *chef kiss* as you can hear in the guide as well!
