It’s BOSS TIME! Ok, yes, it’s another boss. The sad boss known as Gorgamungar. Corrupted by the Rot through experimentation from some as-of-yet unknown villain, this dragon represents a difficult fight for our destined band.

The idea of a frightening draconic entity who has now been infused with the Rot was something I had early on in the planning for Season 2. I’m glad we got to explore it when we did, and the sheer amount of options at the dragon’s claw tips was impressive. With powerful damage and a brutal breath attack, Gorgamungar was a battle that tested the PCs to their limits and one I don’t think they’ll forget anytime soon—especially poor Vaali.

This fight also introduced the latest rules concept in the game: some non-death related effects can increase your rotten condition. It’s a brutal effect, but one that should only happen on a particularly bad critical failure. This is something to be used sparingly and only as a major mechanic that can really amp up the fear in your players. After all, a Rot Dragon SHOULD be something to be feared.

This update also reveals why the Not-Dragon from prior episodes wasn’t present here. It’s because it was always intended as an “add” for this fight. Introducing it early, with the boss token, was a biiiiit of a sneak misdirection on my part, so judge all you want. For now, enjoy all these statblocks!
