Midsommar Director's Cut Full Length Reaction

Dante

If you are looking for a longer-ish show after Succession and Barry end I highly recommend Black Sails. 4 seasons 38 episodes it is a prequel to Treasure Island set 20 years before. It's incredible and I think would be a cool change of pace from the shows you've been watching recently. I think you'd really enjoy it.

A bunch of people went to a screening of Midsommar on April fools and got to see the premiere for Beau Is Afraid instead, and also got a Q&A moderated by Emma Stone

I love this film so much. The tension between characters is so real and hard to watch. The unsaid things between Dani and Christian is so painful at times. I find myself just yelling at the screen. There has also never been a more realistic portrayal of a typical mushrooms trip in film. The subtle undulation of the elements and melting into the grass. So expertly done. I had heard that you could see Dani's sister's face transposed into the trees after she won the May Queen event. I saw it this time and it's haunting. This film isn't 'scary' per se. It is tense, heavily emotional, and horrific. Yet, I am oddly happy for Dani at the end. She was all alone in this world. She was held by no one. The only person she has to lean on was Christian and he is not able to truly be there for her. When that group of women were crying with Dani and collectively feeling her pain I am so moved. The family certainly practices extreme traditions but I can't help but feel like she will be taken care of there. They do horrid things to the outsiders but they are seemingly very kind and caring for all of their family. That's why I love this story. It's hard to take it in black and white terms. It makes me think and feel. I love it. I am happy I finally watched the directors cut for academic purposes. It was great to see some more of the Midsommar rituals but I do feel the overall flow of the story works better in the theatrical cut. The extended scenes don't hurt the film like some do but I do feel the theatrical is tighter and gives us the information we need at the right times.

You should check out Picnic at Hanging Rock 1975 it has similar style to this in the way its a folksy thriller but mostly in daylight, also has a very unique eerie and uneasy feel, I think you would appreciate it

Dude pause at 02:11:42 notice that face in the trees??? that's wild i only noticed it this time (2nd watch) makes me wonder what else i missed that was hidden like that, man this is still my favourite Ari Aster movie, it's so disturbing yet mesmerizing i just have no words for this masterpiece its a constant trip that i can't look away from no matter how disturbing it is, it reminds me so much of the Suspiria remake from 2018 which is also beautiful, disturbing, weird yet mesmerizing i think you would LOVE that movie if you are into movies like this and Hereditary i hope you can do a reaction to it, it would make my day! :)
