Suicide Squad Full Length Reaction

Honestly I like this version over the other one. This one is campy and whimsical. The other one seem like this version but they chose C for all of the answers instead of A.

I'd give this one a D and the new one a B. This version falls off and is occasionally good. The new version (2021) is better and I laughed through it, a lot funnier.

This video does a great job at breaking down why this movie is so bad. Beyond the obvious script problems a huge issue is the editing. This guy breaks it down very clearly: https://youtu.be/mDclQowcE9I

Birds of Prey (renamed to Harley Quinn for the second half of its theatrical release) is better than this movie. But only because it is a clear vision. It had an idea and fulfilled that idea. This version of Suicide Squad is a butchered studio mess. So many dirty hands got all over it. Birds of Prey is like skittles candy. They have no substance but they taste kinda good for a bit then your tongue hurts.

So what are the DCEU movies on the watch list? Excited to see a couple reactions

man I'm so excited for suicide squad 2021 after this lol. it looks like the godfather next to this LMAO

Just some context going into the sequel. The first Suicide Squad was directed by David Ayer. The second is directed by James Gunn, who did the Guardians of the Galaxy movies. They are almost entirely detached. The second one is essentially made to make up for the first. Two completely different visions.

OK, since the new one is next, I may just choke through this one again, I mean it def has some good parts, lol

You really need to watch Birds of Prey before THE Suicide Squad to completely be caught up and also, IMO, Birds of Prey is the best of the Harley trilogy.

Regarding the editing of this film, Warner Bros released two HIGHLY successful trailers and then took the film away from David Ayer and gave it to the trailer house to edit the film to mimic the vibe of the trailers... unfortunately, it resulted in the pacing issues you're referring to --- hence #ReleaseTheAyerCut This movie got Jossed just like Justice League. You can tell there's a LOT of good stuff in this movie. But the WB brass during this period of mistrust in their talent began with editing down Batman v Superman from the brilliant 3 hour cut to the truncated 2 1/2 cut, followed by their mistakes with this film and climaxing with the Josstice League disaster.

Yeah it gets a weird amount of guff, that movie is awesome. Definitely like the movie more than The Suicide Squad, but I might like Harley's part in The Suicide Squad more than I like her specific arc in Birds of Prey. I pretty much enjoy all 3 of them, the only meh one is Suicide Squad 2016, and it is easy to see where that is a full on editing issue and producer hands getting in it. It's edited by the guys who did the trailer, like yeah the trailer was awesome, but it needs a bit more in an actual movie. David Ayer has been pretty vocal about it, and while I dont know if his vision would have been the best of the 3 either, you cant say it was given even half as much of a chance as the other 2 (considering both were r on release, and ayer thought he was doing an r rated movie when he signed on).

Awesome, Brandon. Make sure to have a nice bacon egg and cheese sandwich for breakfast that day

this comment sums it all up very nicely

My ideal DC multiverse watch order is: Wonder Woman Batman 89 Batman Returns Joker Superman Superman II WW84 Man of Steel BvS Ultimate Edition Suicide Squad Birds of Prey The Suicide Squad Zack Snyder's Justice League Aquaman Shazam! Then Josstice League for after the fact comparison 🤪

The only issues I see is that the Joker movie happens when Bruce Wayne is 10 years old. If anything it'd be after Wonder Woman.

To be honest, could you really give a good review of this movie after you heard so much negative stuff about it?

Jason Dolan

So you're saying before the Burton Batman. My thinking is that when I watch the Burton Batman it feels like it is channeling 50s-70s... and is also an Elseworld, and then Joker is sort of the introduction to the timeline with Affleck since both movie theaters were playing Excalibur more directly connecting these origins on the timeline. And then Superman is early 80s which leads into and inspired directly WW84. Around this same time, we have the simultaneous stories of young Superman and present day Superman which begins the events chronicled in the DCEU. That was my thinking of why I order it in this way, if that makes more sense. But of course, anyone can watch them in whatever order they want... release order, or watch Batman 89 and Batman Returns AFTER WW84. That's also a good way to do it, and then Joker happens before them both. Also the goofiness of WW84 is sandwiched nicely between the goofiness of the Reeves Superman films and the Burton Batman films. So something like this: Wonder Woman Joker Superman Superman II WW84 Batman 89 Batman Returns Man of Steel BvS Ultimate Edition Suicide Squad Birds of Prey The Suicide Squad Zack Snyder's Justice League Aquaman Shazam!
