Funny thing about Evil Dead 2, its really a Re-Quel. It retells the first movie in the first part then gets into the "Sequel" portion. Apparently Sam Rami did not have the rights to his own original film they had to "Retell" the story again.

Fun fact; Sam Raimi lived in the same house with the Coen Brothers, Frances McDormand, and Holly Hunter for a time. Raimi pops up for a cameo in the Coen Bros "Miller's Crossing", Bruce Campbell has a small role in their "The Hudsucker Proxy" as well as appearing in archival footage on a tv during "Fargo". The character of Bobby Jo in Evil Dead 2 was written with Holly Hunter (Ed in "Raising Arizona") in mind but she declined the role. Listen to the commentary track for this movie with Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell, and the other writer (not Rob Tappert, his name escapes me at the moment), it is well worth the listen.
