You're def not off-base. This show does a great job of presenting socio-political topics (and they've been around for long before this show, and yep, sure enough sadly still exist just as much now) and the characters themselves either A) Learn nothing from them and don't display any semblance of morality or growth; or B) They try to exploit or abuse these issues, and their only means of 'learning' is totally missing the point, and simply backing out when their attempt at abuse backfires.

I forgot, but when Charlie comes out with the broom, it is a Dog Day Afternoon reference. It is a small one, so it's not a big deal. But Dog Day Afternoon is a great movie, I suggest viewing it sometime. In this case, I think it's Always Sunny season 4, maybe later; I know it's not in season 2 and don't think it's season 3. But there is an episode that heavily references Dog Day Afternoon. You could always re-visit just that single scene with Dee and Artemis street acting and Charlie interrupting after watching Dog Day Afternoon later, too.

this episode has one of my absolute favorite Charlie moments: the Rock, Flag, and Eagle song. fun fact: that whole thing was pretty much ad libbed by Charlie Day. he had forgotten the lines for the original song from the script so he just winged it. you can kinda tell because if you look at Kaitlin Olson's face during the song, she has this surprised look on her face and she also looks like she wants to laugh but is trying to stay in character. Charlie Day is a freaking comedic genius!

Haha I love how many great moments in the show so far have been ad libbed, I can't believe Kaitlin Olson managed to keep a straight face during that!

Watch their bloopers sometime on YouTube. They have compilations for the season. They literally have so many takes because they can’t hold it together. Charlie being the worst
