we have to get you familiarized with the hangul spelling of all members lol, it’ll make everything so much easier! this dance was actually inspired by a true story, unfortunately i don’t have all details, but a man (momo) was obsessed with a woman (mina) and kept her captive until she died.

So basically the story of the dance is that Mina is in an abusive relationship with Momo (locking her in the dungeon, aka the box) and they go through ups and downs and eventually Mina dies from the conditions and treatment from Momo. The random people that came in at the end represent society. They’re covering their faces because that represents them turning a blind eyes to the situation and they get Momo to turn a blind eye becoming a part of the horrible society that is today. Momo co-choreographed this dance but on the choreographers instagram he posted the rehearsal video, if I find it i’ll send it to you. Unfortunately the judges thought it was creepy and didn’t know what it was about so she didn’t win but that’s how Korea is, they turn blind eyes on serious situations.

This performance gives me chills everytime I see it. Momo and Mina together are so captivating. Our main dancers are a powerful duo!

The dance is based on a case in Korea where a guy kidnapped his ex-girlfriend and held her captive until she died. During that time she called police but they did not respond. Apparently the neighbors knew about her but did nothing. The audience hated the performance and gave Momo a very low score. They didn't want to know about abusive love either.

Hit the Stage is a contest created right after Twice's debut they are the babies in the show. It's a contest for all main dancers for both boy and girl groups. And I believe, after this, Momo lost since the audience didn't like the story, plus they are the only Same Sex duo during this episode. It was art for sure. Luckily, another JYP artist won, Got7 Yugyeom. He became the Champion of this show.

I don't know why people keep saying like audience hated the story, hated same sex duo, or that is what Korea do. That is dance contest with 200 audiences. Momo crew got 141. There were 3 other teams who got lower scores than Momo's crew. Those audiences hated those three team too? Ten (NCT) got 135. Jang Hyun-seung (ex-Beast) X Stephanie (The Grace) got 138, and Chung-ha (IOI) got 136, All of them did well. Just other team did better or bigger fandom at that time. If you guys watched Sixteen, you already knew. Auditions or contests of Mnet are fan based. If your team has more fan in audience, you win. Do not give false perception to others. None of audience and none of judges said they didn't like Momo's performance because of story or crew members. It is just a TV show and just happened like that. Please keep this area as a clean area.

So all yes and no. This was controversial because it dealt with domestic violence which is usually look the other way. Yes Mina and Momo is in a relationship where there is domestic violence and ends with Mina dying. At the end there is a funeral march with people looking the other way. Korean society generally Turn a blind eye when it comes to domestic. Momo Chose this theme to bring attention to domestic violence. I've seen this at least 20 times, and it is still disturbing every time. The way we see idols in their official group activities are only part of their personalities and artistic range. Things like Hit the Stage and Sixteen allow us to see more of them, and that is one key difference between the Kpop industry and western pop. My perception is that it is much more normal in Kpop for the idols to show their "bare face" to fans. Plus, Momo has some serious muscle in those thighs. I knew she was strong, but dang.

Mina doesn't get enough credit for her dancing. Sure, Momo is the best and she has arguably the best "lines" in all of kpop. However, Mina is an amazing dancer especially when it comes to classical/ballet/contemporary. Her acting/expressions are also SO on point.
