Third Arc (Fallen Heart) - 230. Resurrection III

Ilex's sword pressed threateningly against Rose's delicate neck. Fear flashed in her eyes, her heart pounding with the realization that her life now hung by a thread. She knew Ilex's cruelty knew no bounds, and her fear was justified. Yet, even in the face of danger, she refused to show any sign of weakness.

"Are you trying to bluff me?" Ilex's voice was laced with malice, a sinister grin playing on his lips. "Or do you think I don't dare kill her?"

Angel's eyes remained locked onto Rose's, his expression calm and unwavering. He understood the gravity of the situation, the precariousness of Rose's predicament, but he also knew that his cousin's cruelty was driven by fear and desperation.

With a heavy sigh, Angel spoke, his voice a measured tone of reason amidst the chaos. "Rose, how long do you intend to play around like that?" he asked, his gaze softening slightly. "Or do I need to help you?"

Rose's icy gaze met Angel's, her resolve unwavering even in the face of danger. "If you do, I'll be really mad at you," she retorted, her voice tinged with both defiance and vulnerability.

In that fleeting moment, Angel could see the fire that burned within her—the fierce determination to stand her ground, defy her captor, and protect those she held dear.

But then, as if by some unseen force, Rose snapped her fingers. In an instant, Ilex and the rest of the Asterian troops crumpled to the floor, their bodies limp weakly.

The hall fell into an eerie silence, punctuated only by the sound of heavy breathing and the soft rustle of clothing. The guests stared in awe and disbelief at the sight before them.

Ilex's mind raced as he tried to comprehend the magnitude of his defeat. The hatred that had fueled him for so long had now consumed him, leaving him broken and defeated.

"What have you... done to me?" Ilex's voice was weak, barely above a whisper, as he struggled to sit up. His body ached, and his movements were slow and laborious. He was no longer the fearsome prince he once was; he was now a mere shadow of his former self.

Rose, on the other hand, stood tall and composed, a wicked smirk playing on her lips. "I'm from the Heart Family. What do you think I've done to you?" she retorted, her voice dripping with sarcasm and triumph.

"You... poisoned me...?" Ilex's voice trembled with a mix of anger and disbelief. He couldn't fathom how Rose had managed to outwit him, to see through his carefully crafted schemes and turn the tables on him.

"Don't worry, the poison only makes you unable to move all day, not to kill you," Rose replied coolly. Her eyes bore into Ilex's, unyielding and determined. "This is just a warning so that you don't play around with Heart Family again." The poison was similar to her family's poison. It could spread through the air. But Rose only spread it around her.

Ilex's heart pounded in his chest, the weight of his own arrogance and ambition now crashing down upon him. He had thought himself invincible, untouchable in his pursuit of power and revenge. But now he realized the depth of his own folly, the blind spots he had failed to see in his relentless pursuit of vengeance.

With a confidence that seemed to exude from every pore, she walked over to Angel, who remained seated on the throne, and sat on his lap as if she owned the world. The air was heavy with tension, but there was also a sense of relief and triumph in their hearts. They had faced their darkest enemy and emerged victorious, but the price they paid was high.

Angel hugged Rose's waist with one hand, pulling her close to him. He looked at her with a mix of admiration and love in his eyes. "I just wanted to take off his mask, to reveal the truth hidden beneath his deceit, but I never thought you could make him admit all his crimes," he said with a hint of amazement in his voice.

Rose returned his gaze with a smile. "I also didn't think he would admit it that easily. I just gave him a little push... And he said everything," she replied, her voice tinged with satisfaction.
