The Incubus System Chapter 687. Elenna's Curiosity I

Elenna’s PoV

The day was slowly drawing to a close, the sun setting in a blaze of orange and pink over the city skyline. Elenna had just returned to her office, the clock on the wall displaying the time as 07.31 PM. She knew she was late, but her mind was consumed with another thing. She had just met with one of her subordinates, who had shown her a video of the incident.

Elenna's building office was quiet, the usual hustle and bustle of the workday long gone. Most of her colleagues had already returned to their homes, eager to leave the office behind for the day. However, Elenna had other plans. She had to return to her room to retrieve some important collections from her drawer.

Her footsteps echoed in the quiet office, her heels clicking against the marble floor, the sound reverberating through the empty halls. The usual cacophony of office chatter and the hum of machines was replaced by an eerie stillness. The only sound she could hear was the gentle hum of the air conditioning unit, working tirelessly to maintain a comfortable temperature in the building. The lighting in the office was dim, casting long shadows across the walls and floors.

Elenna rushed down the hallway, her assistant hot on her heels. She was in a hurry, her mind consumed with thoughts of the great demon. Her assistant, however, was not as eager to continue this investigation.

"Boss, I thought you had given up on investigating demons and demon hunters," her assistant reminded her once again, panting slightly from the effort of keeping up with her.

Elenna didn't slow down, her eyes fixed on her destination. "I did say that," she replied, her voice firm.

Her assistant persisted, desperate to understand why she was so insistent on retrieving the file. "So? Why do you want to retrieve the file again? Besides, does it have anything to do with the last robbery video?"

Elenna's eyes narrowed as she turned to face her assistant, her feet still carrying her forward. "I told you it's no ordinary robbery. I'm sure it has something to do with the great demon!" she declared, her voice full of conviction.

Her assistant groaned, his tone sounding like a whine. "But you are over it!" he complained, his eyes pleading with her to stop this madness.

Elenna looked ahead, her face a mask of determination. "That's what I told the police and my therapist," she murmured, her voice tinged with nonchalance.

Her assistant let out another exasperated sigh, his shoulders slumping in defeat. "Oh no…" he whined, feeling overwhelmed by the situation. "I didn't sign up for this…"

Elenna turned to him once again, her eyes blazing with an intense fire. "Don't tell anyone, okay!" she threatened him.

Elenna's assistant let out a resigned sigh, knowing all too well his boss's relentless determination. Once Elenna set her sights on something, she would stop at nothing to achieve her goal, no matter how impossible it may seem. He had seen her obsession with demons and demon hunters before, and he knew that trying to talk her out of this investigation was a futile effort.

Elenna and her assistant finally arrived at her office. She fumbled with her keys, searching for the right one to unlock her office door. Finally, with a satisfying click, the door swung open, revealing a dark room shrouded in shadows.

Her heart raced as she dug into her drawer, her fingers trembling with anticipation. Her eyes darted across the various items in her drawer until they landed on a large office binder that contained all of her most important files and photographs from her extensive research on demons and demon hunters. With a sense of nostalgia, she reached for the thick binder cover, running her fingers over the embossed lettering that read "Demon Research."

As she pulled the binder out of the drawer and placed it on her desk, a broad smile bloomed on her face. She never thought she would have to open it again after the traumatic events that had occurred, but fate had other plans.

Elenna's hands flew over the binder, quickly flipping through pages until she came to a section with photographs. Her fingers ran over the glossy pages until she came to a file with the clearest photos of the great demon ever captured by CCTVs.

Then her attention was immediately drawn to her phone as she pulled it out of her pocket and began to play a video. Her eyes were locked on the screen, her focus unwavering as she studied the footage. With a sudden burst of excitement, she paused the video and compared it to the photographs she had just uncovered.

"It's him," she muttered, her voice barely above a whisper. Elenna's eyes darted back and forth between the two images, searching for any telltale signs that would confirm her suspicions.

Turning to her assistant, she held up the phone and exclaimed, "Look, it's him!"

Her assistant let out a deep sigh, his face etched with weariness. "Boss, even if it really is him, we wouldn't be able to do anything. They've banned you from anything related to demons. Do you remember?" he reminded her once again, hoping to dissuade her from pursuing this dangerous path.

Elenna's expression hardened as she thought about the restrictions that had been placed on her. She had been warned time and time again to stay away from anything related to demons, but her curiosity and determination had always gotten the best of her.

"They may have banned me, but as long as I can pretend to be someone else, I can continue my investigations," she said with a smirk, her eyes gleaming with fierce determination.

"You are kidding, right?" the assistant whined. “Are you going to chase that student again?” The worry in his tone was palpable.

Elenna arched an eyebrow at him. "You mean Ethan?" she asked, her voice tinged with amusement. "I don't care about him anymore. I thought that he was a demon hunter, but what I want now is him." She pointed to the photo in front of her. "I want to meet the great demon once again."

The assistant's jaw dropped in shock. He couldn't believe what he was hearing. "Are you crazy?" he exclaimed, his voice rising in alarm. "He is a demon. You will die!"
