I love the Karate Kid franchise that includes a TV Series on Netflix that is going into it’s sixth and final season. There is The Karate Kid, The Karate Kid Part II, The Karate Kid Part III, The Next Karate Kid (Miyagi is back and helping with trying to help take care of another kid after Daniel has grown which is played by a young Hilary Swank), a film reboot that starred Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith which is actually really good, and then there is the Cobra Kai TV show that continues both Johnny and Daniel’s stories which continues 33 years after the first film and both Johnny and Daniel are played by William Zabka and Ralph Macchio as well. The writing of that series though is so good that it makes the film better as well. You have to watch the Cobra Kai series after the films. Also one of the kid actors in the Cobra Kai series is now playing DC’s newest superhero coming out in August, Blue Beetle.

Also you have seen Ralph Macchio in something else on your channel. He was in My Cousin Vinny. He was the cousin that Vinny defending in court.

You have just entered the Karate Kid universe (4 films and Cobra Kai TV series) Enjoy the run. I think it's fair to say that all of us, 80s kids, were all in love with Elisabeth Shue because of this film and Adventures in Babysitting. Ali is indeed a wonderful girlfriend.

Agreed. The Cobra Kai series give so much flesh to every characters. It's not all black and white.

My ex-girlfriend is a teacher and we used to watch movies together. She would make a movie suggestion then I would and this was one I suggested to her. I knew she would love Mr. Miyagi as a great teacher and she absolutely loved him and this movie. So much we watched the rest of them and then the “Cobra Kai” series. Mary, I know how you feel about being the new kid in town, too. My Dad was in the Navy for 22 years and we moved around quite a bit. I actually went to three schools in one year (5th grade). Like Daniel, I was bullied, too. Never got beat up, but I did get kids abusing me verbally and psychologically and got into a couple of fights. My Mom wanted me to enroll in karate, but the class was expensive and I backed out. You know, it’s the emotional and psychological abuse that no one sees. It affects the way you walk, talk, and it shatters your self-confidence. It makes you distrust people even when they pay you a compliment or just genuinely being nice. The bruises heal. The scars never go away. It took me a long time to build my confidence and defend myself. Mr. Miyagi is my spirit animal. I HATE violence. Fighting is the last thing I want to do. But there comes a time when push comes to shove and we must defend ourselves and the people we love. It’s like I said to someone, “I never start a fight, but I will finish one”. Not that long ago, I was channeling Mr. Miyagi when I said to someone, “Mind must be like parachute-always open”. Not sure where that came from, but it just came out of my mouth. Sorry for the long message. Mary, you made my day. Thank you! You’re the best around. 🍒

My car needs waxing. I must remember to wax on wax off.

Aside of The Karate Kid franchise you should see also other two movies with Ralph Macchio: My Cousine Vinny and The Outsiders.

I'm here for anything part of the miyagi-verse.

Cobra Kai fleshes out all these characters so well, it's one of the best shows on TV and Johnny Lawrence is one of the best characters on TV

I agree. All the Karate kid movies are amazing and for them to follow up with an entire sequel TV show many years later that does amazing the entire way through is just (Chefs kiss) and is worth the reactions should you work yourself up to them :) I mean they are directed by the same producer of a couple of the Rocky movies so if thats any indication. Rocky was inspiration for the karate kid movies. xD

I love these movies so much all of the way up to the most recent Netflix show. One of the truly heartbreaking thing about Mr. Miyagi's past is something they really don't focus on is the death of his wife. I missed this when I was a kid because, even as an American they didn't bring this up in history class because is really is a dark stain on our history. But during World War II Japanese Americans were rounded up and incarcerated in camps all over the country. So, while Mr. Miyagi was serving his country and winning the medal of honor his wife and son died in internment camps due to lack of medical care. It really is heartbreaking.

This film is truely a classic, and timeless film. Part 2 is also an amazing movie I’m sure you will very much appreciate. Unfortunately part 3 is only mediocre, and part 4 is an abomination and waste of film sadly. However, the much more recent Netflix TV series Cobra Kai, which features all the same characters and incredibly same original actors 35+ years later along with a whole new cast of young students, is extremely well done and very much worth watching, so I highly recommend checking that out also after finishing these movies.

I'm so glad you decided to watch this movie. I hope you continue with the rest of the films and series
