I remember when Travon Martin and Ferguson happened folks some discourse about interracial dating came up. I remember saying that it didn't matter right now and that discourse took away from the actual issues. Two women that I know who happened to be very well educated both told me that who someone dated needed to be talked about because it was important. I thought to myself that they were f*cking dumb.

Yeah I remember that whole discourse about translating black pain to white partners. Sickening.

Love the show but one quick thing: the NBA does have their version of sabermetrics and thinkers who propagate these ideas being promoted in the league. John Hollinger created the PER metric and later became an executive for the Grizzlies. Similarly, Darrell Morey, GM for the Sixers and formerly for the Rockets is a big advanced metric proponent. Many actually blame the decline in the watchability of the league to the change over to a more analytics oriented game.

Great point on The Wire and the lack of ratings that enabled the writers to maintain the integrity of the show.

Absolutely. All the greatest TV shows stayed hungry by never knowing if they were even going to get renewed. I think of some shows I loved and once they took off in the ratings and the showrunners became celebrities, going on talk shows, and getting multi-season renewals the quality always took a nosedive.
