Today we discuss various topics from beefing with Talib Kweli on Twitter to Marc Lamont Hill getting fired from CNN. Unfortunately we have to end the episode on a somber note as well.

Good episode. Lamont shouldn't have been over there. He may have fallen into the trap of lots of other blacks and have bought into the idea of blind, un-reciprocated solidarity (and this is a case where there could be no reciprocation, because Palestinians are likely not aware and do not have time to be aware with the solidarity of random black folk...or anyone for that matter. Unlike what people have said, this is not equivalent to that black factory worker who recorded the protest of his Latino co-workers. Lamont was doing high risk long distant solidarity politics) with other groups. That is fine, but such a manifestation of solidarity in that particular with that LACK of knowledge is unacceptable (especially by a black person) and costed him. He did not belong in that space. He should have kept his solidarity in the comfort of his home or in close friend circles. It was a risk with no potential of reward for himself or the Palestinians.

Dope ep and sending my positive thoughts to Mike! I wanted to add some things on the Marc Lamont Hill who I never was a fan of, always felt he was trying to raise his superstar brand especially when he was doing Huffington Post Live and then became a CNN yelling talking head. But as far as Palestine, here is a link to the history of that phrase “river to the sea” quick read with hot links in it but it helps contextualize it and as someone who feels he has reasonable knowledge of situation of Palestinians it’s pretty trustworthy, but of course that’s my (reasonably informed) opinion. I def encourage learning more about it because it’s an example of global White Supremacy and is very much apart of our web. https://forward.com/opinion/415250/from-the-river-to-the-sea-doesnt-mean-what-you-think-it-means/ As far as Marc Lamont Hill, I do agree with your read of white liberal values encasing his actions, I’ve also been around him a few times at lectures and other events and have sensed that he practices a very diluted and academy friendly mode of Black scholarship. I do believe that Black interest in Palestinian causes can be and historically when it comes to far left quite productive and necessary, The Black Panthers took interest and so did other groups and scholars because Israel is a clear example of imperial White Supremacy and ethnic cleansing. And there has been a lot of cross section between revolutionary scholarship on the Black side and Arab side - Fanon being an example as he was as a big an influence on the Arab movement against White Supremacy as he has been an influence on the Black front. I’ve met as many Arab Fanon scholars as I have Black ones. But Marc Lamont Hill is sloppy, he wants to talk and dip into “revolutionary” politics but still keep his “woke bae” liberal friendly status and they don’t mix. CNN historically has allows anti-Palestinian and anti-Arab rhetoric on their network so for Marc Lamont Hill to think that he could slide through shows he hasn’t grasped the reality of what he is doing. I think his issue is yes a mix of white liberal values but also part of his status is being a reformed and progressive “black thinker” so he adopts knowledge of things that might have been of interest to the Black left or Black Nationalist groups but actively tries to mainstream them in a way to keep his mainstream status in tact, but clearly he didn’t do his homework on Palestine as any reasonable scholar would know that’s an issue many white Americans, even liberals have hard opinions on where if any person not Jewish, especially if they are of color will be seen as an anti-Semite. He is getting a lesson in the limits of power but it should have been obvious to him. Why he’s never been a serious scholar and like one of the commenters above stated actually did himself a disservice and the Palestinian cause by being so half assed. Anyway, just wanted to add.
