If you've taken a serious interest in medieval studies, or in the study of J. R. R. Tolkien's name, or just watched a documentary or DVD extra about The Lord of the Rings, you've likely come across the name of Professor Tom Shippey, and maybe you've thought to yourself, "I'd love to ask that man a question."

Well now you have a chance, thanks to your generous support of my weird little channel. Prof. Shippey reached out in September and we got to talking about his new edition and translation of Beowulf that he's done along with Prof. Leonard Neidorf. I thought some Beowulf talk would be a good opening to our conversation, and of course I'm curious to hear him talk a little about The Hammer and the Cross trilogy. But we'll also, I hope, have time for some of your questions--though my guess is this is likely to be a fairly "crowded" interview.

The date is Thursday, October 19th, at noon U.S. Mountain time / 19:00 (7:00 p.m.) UK. The Zoom link is here(https://zoom.us/j/96859611969?pwd=all5U0VaTXp2cWVMbldXUnRTQkJhZz09) and the passcode is 913224.

I'll really hope to see you there. All the best for now,

Jackson Crawford

P.S. Your Patreon messages often don't reach me, and vice versa for my replies to you. I don't get notifications for them, and there's nothing on my home page to show me when there is or isn't a message. I can't even always see them when I check for them manually, and you won't see it if I reply! The best ways to get in touch are: a) just to comment on posts like this, b) to post in the  Community page, or c) to email Stella at [admin AT JacksonWCrawford.com]--remember the 'W' between my first and last names in that domain name.

Welcome back to the southwest! Have you found a good cigar shop in the area? I rarely go downtown, but would be tempted by something closer

Was the interview with Tom Shippey recorded? I meant to be there but couldn't.
