Simon Roper and I are announcing a new project for 2023 and you're invited to participate. We'll be reading Beowulf together in installments (in Old English) and commenting on it along the way. Patreon supporters of both him and me are welcome to join us live for these Zoom calls, although we're going to limit audience q-&-a and comments to the end of each recording. Like with my Patreon interviews, these live conversations will later be posted on Youtube too (probably alternatingly to his channel and mine).

Our first reading is "fits" 1-4 of Beowulf, inclusive (the "fits" are the "chapter"-like equivalents, of which Beowulf has 43). We encourage you to read them, whether in the original or in translation, before the call. I recommend Dick Ringler's translation, also from Hackett, and if you get that one the fits are clearly labeled with Roman numerals. It's also available on Kindle. For the Old English, I'll be reading the fourth edition of Klaeber.

Our first Zoom call to read and discuss is Saturday, January 21st, at 1:00 p.m. U.S. Mountain. Check timeanddate.com for when that is in your time zone. I'll have a Zoom link for you soon (it will be hosted by Simon) and I'll make another post with that, but I wanted you to know about this event sooner than I had the link.

We plan to continue this series through 2023, though we don't have plans for it to be at any particular regular interval.

All the best for now, and thank you as always for your continued kindness and support,

Jackson Crawford

P.S. My Patreon messages don't work. I don't get notifications for them, and there's nothing on my home page to show me when there is or isn't a message. I can't even always see them when I check for them manually, and you won't see it if I reply! The best ways to get in touch are: a) just to comment on posts like this, b) to post in the  Community page, or c) to email my assistant Stella at [admin AT JacksonWCrawford.com]--remember the 'W' between my first and last names in that domain name.

I've got a version on kindle, which is easier to find than the print version I have stashed somewhere. Different translations.

Time to dust off the verse translation I read back in college! Also, if you have Audible, there is a translation and an OE version included in your membership.
