Alphabets and Runes Series (Patreon)

My three-part series on the history of (our, Roman) alphabet with my good friend Dr. Luke Gorton (part 1 is on my channel, part 2 is on his, part 3 will be up on mine this Friday) has not been exactly blockbuster material, but both of us have used it as an opportunity to gather ideas, start research projects, and bounce thoughts off one another for our own follow-up series.

My follow-up series will be a new examination of the history of the runes, some of the videos for which are already filmed. This will go beyond my fairly introductory look at this question in a video from three years ago, to really consider not only the runes as a system and how that system could have originated, but even some detailed looks at specific rune letters and how they might have gotten their shape and sound value. While acknowledging that we'll probably never know for 100% certain how the runes reached the shapes they had by the time of the first confirmable inscriptions in the 100s A.D., I think the mystery itself is pretty fascinating, and the alphabet series will provide a good introduction and grounding for you if you're interested in following along with the upcoming rune series.

Meanwhile I hope everyone is well. I've been able to "catch up" (as much as I ever can) on some work a little, including breaking new ground on the fifth title I owe Hackett Publishing Company (the exact details of which I'll keep for a later surprise).
