Don't forget our Patreon-exclusive Crowdcast tomorrow with the University of Colorado's Avedan Raggio, who will take your questions on the intersection of Norse myth and popular culture (especially in Tolkien's work) and the arts of weaving and tapestries. These are topics where she is much more qualified to speak than I am, and I know they have sparked questions from some of you before, so I hope you'll enjoy this chance to hear about them from her. This one has nearly filled up, but there are still a few spaces as I write!
I'd also like to get your general input on some of the basic facts of my channel right now, so I'm inviting you to give me anonymous feedback on a few things in the poll below (I can't tell who votes for what). You can click as many of the poll responses below as are true for you (which means yes, you could give me contradictory answers), and what I'm looking for is just a general feel for what my supporters are feeling about basic things like the frequency of videos, the types of topics covered, and the tone/style of my presentations.
I don't think I've seen a comment on the YouTube channel in more than two years at this point, and the feedback I get on Patreon tends to be very specific to one video or topic and hard to apply more broadly. What I'm really looking for is something more general; just a sense of whether Patreon broadly is content with the state of the channel or would prefer some broad-strokes changes.
Lastly, I know that as the coronavirus crisis and associated challenges have worn on, many people have been hard hit financially. It means a lot to me that so many of you have hung on and continued to support my videos through all this. While I can never be 100% responsive to all feedback and requests, I am dedicating more time lately to considering your requests (especially on the topics polls) and trying to give you more of the information you're looking for. There will always be lag time: all the way from the first notes to a video to getting it uploaded and scheduled, I'm a one-man show, and videos are sometimes months old when I get around to finishing editing them. Plus, there are other factors that affect the channel--right now, the biggest time challenge is the immense work required for The Great Courses class. But I hope to keep it relevant for you, and to keep my videos as sources of information and, if not good cheer, at least something like distraction amid whatever difficulties life throws your way.
All the best for now,
Dr. Jackson Crawford
