Elizabeth Porter made me a new channel icon for use where the bucking bronco is too complicated and I'm already falling for it. A raven in a cowboy hat. Like a drengr.

So I put that very thing on a t-shirt (and a women's tee, a long-sleeve tee, a hoodie, a tote bag, a sticker, and a mug*), with the words "like a drengr" in Old Norse and English. Best of all, the Old Norse word for that is just "drengila," and that's actually preserved in runic inscription Sö 179 (at least), where it says in part:

"Þeir fóru drengila fjarri at gulli ..." ("They went like drengrs far away for gold..." in grammar terms "drengila" is actually an adverb more like "drengr-ly" so it works just as well for singular or plural, "like a drengr" or "like drengrs"). You can see the word for yourself at the far right hand edge of the stone, just to the right of the snake's head in this fine image of the runestone on Wikimedia Commons. *On the mug, the words aren't printed right over the raven but on the other side of the mug from the raven. That probably also means the image quality on the raven will be highest on the mug, but I'm not going to make the mug in colors other than white because it would be needlessly complicated to make different versions of the raven and text files for each color.

In personal news, I was in poor health and then in the ICU for the last four days. This is not related to my illness last week but to a chronic issue, but it did force me into posting only one video this week, and I am considering that also as a regular way forward into 2019, as long as it is a high-quality video. Right now I am recuperating outside of the hospital at last; I appreciate your words of support but it will take me a while to get back to anyone who has messaged or written in the interim.
