This was a lot of fun to do: I was interviewed by Annalee Newitz of Ars Technica about Odin and his portrayal in American Gods.

Decrypted: American Gods showed us who Wednesday really is

For the weirdest episode of American Gods so far this season, I was delighted to have on our podcast a guest whose job is to translate Old Norse, the language of the Vikings. Jackson Crawford teaches Old Norse at UC Berkeley and University of Colorado at Boulder, and he explains Norse culture and language delightfully on his YouTube channel.

I was a bit confused with the way they portrayed the Numinine myth. I took away that it showed that the gods die when they are forgotton. Numinine's people adopted the other culture's traditions and gods which resulted in their old god "dying". Personally, I liked the version in the book better. I wish they had left the dream of the hall of forgotten gods, because I think that would have made the scene more clear and helps you to understand Odin's fear.
