So there is a website Stealing Content of of Patreon and putting it onto a website they are posting the Links and I'm trying to figure out I how to proceed going forward thinking about putting all of the links behind Password Protected Links.

It does sucks because its not gonna be as easy for everyone in the community to just click on the links and watch but Its possibly what needs to be done going forward.

The way it would work would be that The Password will be the 5th option in the polls going forward since that does not show up on that site. Reason I cant just type the password here is because the people who created the site that's stealing the stuff is just copying all of the text as well.

I'm, Sorry for the inconvenience if we have to do this but I'm not sure what the other option would be.

I put up the streamer poll because I'm trying to figure out which streamer works best for everyone.

So Dropbox seems to work the best for me and a lot of you guys

Steamable works well but they don't have anything after reaching the 2TB in uploads so I would have to delete files and pay more than double for it compared to Drive, Dropbox and pCloud.

Google Drive works for me and everyone as well but I cant figure out how to password protect the links.

pCloud works for me but seems to give you guys a lot of issues.

So im trying to figure out what to do.

Any advice or things other reactors are using or doing would help.

IF YOU KNOW ANY CREATORS USING THE PATREON VIDEO OPTION PLEASE COMMENT THE CHANNELS BELOW

One patreon I supported was using password protected Vimeo links. Not sure the cost or if that works with copyright but they also show the episode throughout in the corner so I don't think it would get blocked because they're private and password protected.

I use the straight to Patreon video option and I havent really heard any complaints so far. I also still drop links for watching and downloading just in case. I use a different storage service though. I use opendrive. Im not sure if you'd be interested but I pay 10 month for unlimited storage that way you wouldnt need to delete any videos. I hope you find something that works best for you. also I wouldnt mind using passwords to watch if you decided to do that.

I think your best option would be to post directly from Patreon, or password protect with Vimeo. If you start posting directly on Patreon, it would also save you some extra time putting together and uploading the reactions to all of your different uploading sites. 6/8 people I am a Patreon for use the Patreon upload feature, with you being 1/2 using sub links. For password protection, I know some people do montly passwords, which is the same password for all of their videos and the password changes the 1st of the Month when the Patreon cycle renews, that could possibly work also.,

That's crazy btw. Doesn't that imply a patron breach? How else would a person be scraping the private data. Like they're not paying for everyone they steal from right?

Travisviews/teatime with Travis and Michael Beveraggi are the ones I watch that use straight to Patreon

Jana Fuller

And I'm so sorry your having to deal with this

Robke

I may have misunderstood the situation, but how do you know one of your patrons aren't the ones doing this? In which case if they get the password then they can copy the videos anyway. Or if it's not a patron then they'd just join patreon to do this?

If it’s the place I know of, as far as I’ve read someone subscribes to the Patreon person and gives that site their login info. And the site keeps updating posts depending on the tier the person was who gave up their login info but the posts stop when the leaker unsubscribes or changes their PW, But there’s no way to tell who on here is giving their login info up to the sites. As far as I know, the only way the posts leak on there is a current member is giving them their Login but there’s no way to figure out who, unless there was a way to publicly have a post only that person sees and do it for every member and see which appears on those sites but idk if that’s even possible or too much trouble

In that case it would maby be a new member, so maby it would be possible to figure out who somehow.

this has been a huge problem all of a sudden across so many platforms. it's always been an issue but never this wide spread. i notice it a lot in my fandom spaces. people take from tumblr and post it on twitter, steal fics and pass them off as their own, etc and when they're called out on it they resort to "you don't *own* this content and i can do what i want" i even saw someone argue that stealing gifs from tumblr to post on twitter and stealing fics and reposting them with small details changed was them "speaking their truth." it's ridiculous how entitled people are and it's gotten so bad for so many creators lately and it just really, really sucks. i'm so sorry you're having to go through this. what a mess.

If your having trouble with finding a better way to post u should just do Dropbox and find way to do drive later this month I think that would help you out.

That's INSANE. Been reading some of the comments that might indicate password protecting might not help, but if you do go forward with it, I think it sounds good and putting it as 5th option on the poll works for me as well. Might not be as easy as just clicking a link but one small step to ensure the content is protected is worth it.

Robke

Would every patron get the same password? Cause unless each member gets a different code, I don't see how it's possible to figure out who is doing this. And it would be so much extra work to do that. I'm sure this is not the first Channel this has happened to, so maybe other creators have figured out a way to do sth about it. Ppl who care about supporting the channel will continue to do so even if some thief is posting content elsewhere

Robke

Posting videos on Patreon sounds like the safest solution cuz only members would able to watch. Unless there is a download option, which then again this person could exploit and just upload content elsewhere. Passwords can be shared, whoever is sharing videos can share passwords at the same time. But if it works for other creators then maybe worth giving it a try.

People who pirate have screen record tools that creates its own file. It's probably a subscriber doing it and you'd never know. Password wouldn't help because the subscriber would have em too. Thats if they're really that determined ya know? And most ppl who do this are, cause undersell to those willing for a fraction of their investment. Can't really contribute falling subscribers to that alone.

Nyssa Rawther 🍉

😱😱😱 I really don't have any idea how any of this works so I hope there's a real solution to all this. I'm really sorry you have to go through this, Steven, and for all the other content creators on Patreon as well...

Robke

@ConsciousChronicle143 I think subscribers fall mostly because people watch their chosen show and then leave. And if he doesn't bring any other shows that have a bigger audience, those subs won't get replaced

MichaelB

I suppose some users might be unhappy, some people tend to think that way. But I really wouldn't worry about it too much outside of this, pretty much every study ever done has shown piracy has little to no negative impact and normally a positive impact in most situations. The amount of people who can or would pay if it wasn't available is so negligible, it makes no actual difference. But it's obviously very much up to you to decide if you think it's battle you have to fight. The best solution, which would make this more difficult for them to do, is uploading directly to Patreon - the problem is Patreon also has a much more strict copyright restriction policy. So at the very least I would advise against that. Personally I think that for your own health it's probably much better to just get on with and focus on what you are doing, and not worry about the tiny number of people who might get something for free.
