So, the ritual this episode was to bring about rain. Once the last sacrifice happened even though it wasn't the intended target but the guy who was doing the killings died and bled into the earth, it took a couple minutes, but it started to rain and that was why they looked the way they did and why Nick said, "don't go there." It would mean they believed the ritual worked instead of it being a coincidence that it started to rain.
