in the scene in the guidance office where miss james knocks the coffee off her desk and keith goes over to help her clean it up, we see him read and take note of the logo on the cup. i think we're supposed to gather that he started going to the same coffee shop with hopes of casually running into her.

Keith saw the coffee cup when he visited the counselor the second time, that's how he knew where she buys her coffee.

Yes he was using her skills to get closer to her and thought his dad was dead.

Duncan, I think, is like an onion they are peeling. It's kind of what makes this show great. It comes across superficially as a rich vs poor teen highschool drama kind of show with a little detective work tossed in to spice it up. In reality though, it's a character study. Many of the characters are quite complicated and each episode we've seen so far, we've gotten another piece to each of their puzzles. As for Duncan in this episode, it was a bit unrealistic, but considering the time constraints, I think they warped reality to fit some stuff in. Going off antidepressants cold turkey is basically altering your brain's chemistry all in one big shabang. Doctors warn against it because it can make someone quite unstable. Some people have ended up killing themselves while doing it. I think that's what they were intending with all his odd behavior. The unrealistic portion is I'm pretty sure it takes more than just a day off your meds to start feeling the effects that strongly. Also, I completely agree with you. That kid was only using the search for his father as an excuse to be able to talk to Veronica regularly. It's kind of the ridiculous logic that reminds me of an old movie called, "10 Things I Hate About You."
