Ted Cali

I guess it’s an unpopular opinion, but I really can’t stand this episode, and it’s aged fucking horribly. Jake is insufferable, but is given a pass by the story because he happens to end up being sort-of right (btw, “your former cellmate happened to rob a jewelry store while you were confirmed to be in a different state” isn’t exactly the slam dunk the show thinks it is). Rosa still has no character beyond “mysterious” and “Charles thinks she’s hot.” And yeah, the image of a white cop arresting a black man without cause because he “mouthed off” isn’t exactly a fun punchline. Thankfully this premise essentially gets a redo later on in what’s probably the best episode of season 5, but that’s still a long way off. To give credit where due, B99 is able to recognize its shortcomings and evolve pretty quickly. That and all of the Terry stuff is funny as hell.
