Yay! I hope you enjoyed this one.

Jaren

Yeessss!!!

James

Not the Sp*ffy kiss, worst relationship in TV history 🤢 Stan Buffy ❤️ This ep is great

AllieDoh

Omg yay! I can't wait to watch your reaction to this one FINALLY. I've been excited since you got to season 4 lmao.

Ryan Wilson

One of the greatest!!

Asaunte

I LOVE SPUFFY SO MUCH

Christine

The curtains close on a kiss, God knows, we can tell the end is near.....

J Scott Page

YES!! Looking forward to this one! Here. We. Go!

Anonymous

It’s the Giles vocals for me. Also finally we get Spuffy!

Nesha

Been waiting for this one.

Other Boy Reactions

I always thought Giles and Tara sounded amazing!

Nyssa Rawther 🍉

I SCREAMED IN THE CAB WHEN I SAW THIS. OMG I CAN'T WAIT. I'VE GOT MY SNACKS READY AND THE LYRICS IN MY BRAIN. LET'S DO THIS!!!

cil

it's the lyrics in the songs for me. the lyrics advance the storylines in major ways and reveal the inner thinkings of our characters. makes the episode truly something special. and yes...that was all of the actors/actresses real singing voices. <3

Stacey

The demon is played by Hinton battle...he is a famous Broadway performer :) and I think dawns very short start of her song when she says "does anyone even notice, does everyone even care" says a lot..she's stealing things and acting out and no one is paying attention to her to notice it. She lost her mother then her sister and she is feeling very alone 🤷🏻‍♀️ that's what I took from the start of her song. Great reaction iv been worried u would hate this episode. I love that it wasn't just a musical for the sake of it, it was a spell/demon and it pushed a lot of the plot along :)

Ghost Mom

Been looking forward to this one for so long! Also you mentioned being interested in behind the scenes; here's a near 30 min behind the scenes video about it if you're curious. https://youtu.be/MNG4ra6F9Xw Also it was this musical that eventually birthed dr. horrible. as this aired in 2001 and dr.horrible occurred during the writers strike around 2007 I believe, Joss called in a bunch of people who had worked with him on this musical, including David Fury who worked on buffy with him (the guy who sings about the mustard on his shirt) he was also in dr. horrible as one of the news reporters.

Calvin Allen

November 2001 I was obsessed with with episode! I had recorded it on vhs and kept rewatching it

Harriet Loughnan

I do love Tara's songs in this. And yes Willow's face during the reveal was just heartbreaking. This is a huge episode but it's also a really fun one. Thanks for a great end to my week!

Nesha

Me too! I watched it so much. My family was sick of it.

Andrea

Your look of delight when you realized it was a musical was a relief, as that usually either goes one of two ways: "Ugh, it's a musical!?" or "YES, it's a musical!" You went the way I was hoping, lol. For me, if this ain't a 10, no episode is. This, along with other bold, creative episodes like "Hush," "Restless" and "The Body" are truly top tier Buffy, and top tier television in general, imo.

Vicky N

And Marti Noxon, parking ticket lady, Who is producer of the show now. She also was on Dr Horrible.

Vicky N

Two of the actors really really didn’t want to sing. Alyson Hannigan and Michelle Trachtenberg. Joss found a way to accommodate both of them. You can find all about it in the background video that someone else already post a link to in the comments. This episode is 10/10. The only flaw is Xander being behind all of this. Doesn’t make sense. But the rest is perfection. The way the musical episode is used to advance the storyline and reveal everyone feelings is great. By now, it’s not a spoiler to say that episode 7 of each season of Buffy is always very important and revelatory. Season 1: Angel Season 2: Lie to me Season 3: Revelations Season 4: The initiative

Vicky N

Season 5: Fool for love Season 6: Once more with feeling

Svetlana Grabar

I LOVE your reaction to this. This is my favorite episode in the series. Whenever I’m feeling down, I rewatch this. All the songs are original and the actors were singing them, which makes it so good and unique.

Daywalker

If this isn't a 10, don't know what Buffy episode is.

Kelly Walker

I always consider it a win when this starts and the reactor has no idea it’s a musical. Still wish it wasn’t hyped though. I was skeptical about the musical before it aired. They were not at all common at the time. I can only remember Xena. It won me over so hard though. The fact that it made sense in universe. That they were self aware and Anya even made reference to the fourth wall. The fact that it wasn’t a throwaway episode. Major MAJOR plot development happened. Joss tailored all the singing and dancing to the style and comfort level of the actors. And they were actually good. It’s very singable. I’d put this, Hush, Restless, and The Body in a tier by themselves personally. An 11 if you will. Others may rise to a 10, but those are 10+ for the creativity, risk taking, and execution. Some of the best episodes of television, not just of Buffy.

DJ Doena

All the things mentioned in the songs really happened in the show. You frowned a bit when Anya sang "his penis got diseases from a Chumash tribe" this was a reference to the season 4 episode where Xander falls into the abandoned church and by the end they are attacked by native American warriors with arrows and Spike almost gets one in the heart. Also when in the first group song Willow mentions that they might be in a kid's dream which is also a reference to a season 1 or 2 episode IIRC.

Nyssa Rawther 🍉

Just watched your reaction. In the beginning you were like "Why am I smiling?" before anything even happened. The answer is cuz it's a Buffy musical. You can watch this episode a million times and still feel it. It's a 10 for me, too. One of the best episodes there is. Rare for a musical episode of a non-musical series.

Anonymous

Hey, just for info :-) I had a blood analysis not so long ago, for anxiety problems but also tiredness. Turns out lack of some vitamins (D and B9) were the causes.

DJ Doena

Here are the lyrics for anyone who wants to read them: https://buffy.fandom.com/wiki/Once_More,_with_Feeling/Lyrics

DJ Doena

Joss got the idea for this episode when the cast had a jam session one evening and he realized how many of his cast could actually sing. As Vicky mentioned above, Alyson didn't really feel comfortable singing, which is why she hasn't a song of her own but just a few lines in the group numbers, especially "I think this line's mostly filler."

Ceara Abrahamsz

Please, please react to the behind the scenes of this episode! Would love to see it! ❤

Quantoto

As you said this episode does continue or move the character storylines ahead, which is rare in TV musical episodes. For instance, all of Buffy's songs are about not being able to feel or her being disconnected from the world which we know she has been feeling since she got back. Yet her final line of the episode is "This isn't real, but I just want to feel." Which is why this is one of the few episodes where I suggest either an immediate rewatch or listening to the soundtrack before moving on to the next episode. Also, you are totally spot on for the "classical musical" feeling during I'll Never Tell. The last shot of them falling onto the sofa laughing is almost the same as the end of Good Morning from Singing in the Rain.

Dawn H. Hawkes

So glad you weren't spoiled on it being a musical before watching it ^_^

Stephanie Bedworth

I can't wait to watch your reaction to this one. This is an episode I used to avoid like the plague because I hate musicals. I finally watched it one time and wound up loving it. it's almost always fun watching people react to it now.

SpikesEcho

Not thrilled with Buffy blatantly ignoring Spike's feelings/what he sang to her. Willow's face was so devastated! Allyson H is phenomenal with that kind of acting. This is one of Amber's stronger performances I think; her acting can be hugely hit or miss for me, though I'm usually able to completely ignore that fact since Tara is so wonderful a person and too good for everyone here!

Anonymous

I'm amazed you've made it this far seemingly without being massively spoiled in some way. It seems every Buffy reactor either before or partly into season 6 gets spoiled for this ep or future story lines, or just generally massive hype for particular eps. Perhaps it's a good thing you're so busy with so many shows. Whilst I don't hold all the musical aspects in as 10/10 perfect regard as everyone - the actual dismantling of the trope to have the musical numbers be both remembered, discussed & the revelation of major character secrets is amazing. I'm with you on the Willows actions actually being evil - is it really any different than a date rapist drugging someone? Consent is removed - it is mind-rape.

Scarlett Monrow

24:00 - woman singing about fire hydrant - that's Marti Noxon (screenwriter/producer on Buffy and Angel).

Shauni Livingstone

I'm so excited that iv sent the kids to their grandparents next door for an hour so I dont get any interruptions 😁

DelGuy03

Hinton Battle is a 3-time Tony Award winner, a real singer-dancer-actor triple threat. You noticed the credit for Andy Blankenbuehler, and he is a major choreographer (notably for Hamilton, which is of course much more recent than this episode.)

Sharon Owen

I haven't finished your season 5 reactions yet, but I couldn't wait for this episode when I saw it was released! I realised watching this I know almost every lyric and dialogue in this episode... I must have commited it to memory when I was a teenager! I'm glad you weren't spoiled that it was a musical. Not many series can pull of a musical episode very well but Buffy does it best

Catherine Thurmond

This has to be one of my favorite episodes and along with it being amazing in general like the best musical episode on any show. The only thing that I have a problem with this episode was it being Xander who summoned Sweet. I get they want to subvert expecting on it being Willow. If they wanted it to be a guy so Sweet wouldn't inact the wife clause have it be Johnathan or Ethan two guys who have miss used magic in the show before or have it be some random newbie witch. Idk. Other then that one of the best episodes ever.

Shauni Livingstone

James marsters (spike) is American in real life and was actually in a band

Briony Addey

Loved your reaction, Steven! So glad you enjoyed it.

Mariella Nilsson

Yes finally! This is going to be amazing!!!

James

Ummm what? Not you saying this woman with MI HAS to reciprocate feelings for this creepy vampire who goes as far as to make a sex robot for her. Kinda disgusting to be honest. She’s her own person - this is a clear example of how spuffy shippers literally don’t give a shit about Buffy’s feelings. Buffy is her own god damn person if she doesn’t want to reciprocate those ‘feelings’ she doesn’t. Also the funny thing is? SHE LITERALLY KISSES HIM this episode. Anyways stop saying this woman has no choice in whether she can be in a relationship or not, the only reason she actually did kiss him is because of her MI.

Mariella Nilsson

I was apart of a sing along to this and dr horrible, it was an amazing evening! Love this episode! If you like musicals I would love to se a reaction to les miserables the movie!

Pho3nixX

My favorite episode & most watched episode. I am so glad you enjoyed it.

Reed James

I hate musicals and I love this episode! Walking through the Fire is awesome, but Tara's song is beautiful. They put the soundtrack out as an album. Notice that Willow doesn't do much singing, though.

Júlia S. Spanopoulos

I'm so glad you enjoyed this one, it's a fan favorite! And one of my favorites too. I was delighted watching your reaction. The season gets a lot darker from here so buckle up.

Marshall Dante Robertson

What can I say about your reaction that most people haven't already said, right? Amazing reaction to an amazing episode. Now, reading the comments made me remember just how TOXIC some of our fandom truly is. (Not that our fandom is an anomaly in comparison to others) but still. Why is it so hard for us to have different opinions without us attacking each other? It makes me want to withhold all opinions involving Spuffy from now on because of it, but I will say this. Neither Angel nor Spike are particularly "good" for Buffy. But they both were essential in helping Buffy grow. Just like in real life, sometimes we have to go through hell in order to become smarter, wiser people on the the other side.

SpikesEcho

The fervor and toxicity of anti-Spike/Spuffy people in Stephens patreon is nuts. And the spoiler territory I've seen them enter into this season simply *because* of that toxic fervor is unacceptable. For every anti-Spuffy, there's ten more who love Spuffy. For every anti-Bangel, there's ten more who love Bangel. For every anti-Biley, there's......ok, bad example, but you get me! 😂 These stories and characters are incredibly complex. There is not one single narrative or perspective to the stories depicted in the show, and every individual responds differently and connects differently to the stories, no matter what the writers were going for. It's really interesting and rewarding to discuss because of that (I recommend buffy podcasts out there that do this), but thats not at all what happens in this forum. The only thing happening here are people attacking and denigrating what other people connect to in the story, which is completely unacceptable. Do not assume Spuffy people don't understand the story or are somehow delusional about it since they don't feel the same way you do about it. You'd be very wrong. Do not assume *you* are picking up on every aspect or interpretation of the story either. You'd also be wrong. Everyone takes something different from the story, because everyone has their own experiences, traumas, mental illnesses, interests, etc. Don't undermine their experiences and what they're connecting with simply because it differs from you. If you are actually interested and open to discussing, then *discuss*. That doesn't mean policing pro-Spuffy comments and insulting them for being pro-Spuffy. That just makes you an ass and a bully. And any credibility towards your opinion is shot. Idk why I'm bothering. From what I've read in Stephens comments, people here simply *want* to be toxic and antagonizing about the ships. Thats how they want to spend their energy. Smh 🙄

Katherine Thoreson

Yes! I was going to comment that before they got shut down due to copyright claims, I had been to two sing-a-longs for this episode, and at the second one I got to meet Amber Benson! Those were so much fun. :D

Mariella Nilsson

It is actually a very good depiction of a destructive relashionship, something to learn from, if people didn’t idolize it it would be a good thing to show on tv!

Mariella Nilsson

This episode really showed all of their problems and perspectives brilliantly! And the sadness and desperation Buffy carryies because she is depressed and feels no happiness. The ending breaks my hearth ”this isn’t real, but I just want to feel”. Such a sad place to find our Buffy.

TheMew

also actual rape too technically since Willow slept with her under the influence of the spell.

Anonymous

I think everyone in general is just tired of reactors being bullied into thinking a certain way about love interests. Why don’t we just let the reactors react with their honest opinion and that’ll solve all the problems! Case closed, let’s go to lunch! Lol

Daniel R

90+ comments LMAO must be a Buffy post

Corey

What monster rated this a 1 where nothing happens? lol So much happens, it's not skippable, and its entertaining.

Angela Colon

This is definitely one of the absolute best Buffy episodes. It uses the concept of song brilliantly. Glad you enjoyed it.

colton

i would LOVE to see you react to the behind the scenes (it’s on youtube!!)

Fighter seVen'eiGht

I think that the intro you're thinking of is Bewitched. Same decade as I Dream of Jeannie and they were directly compared to one another.

Fighter seVen'eiGht

I think that this and The Body were my two favorite episodes of the entire series. Both series in fact. The Buffyverse doesn't get much better story wise or creatively and that's saying alot considering how much great content the Buffyverse has.

Hanne-Marie Pedersen

It was just a pleasure to watch this with you :D This is one of my favourite episodes of season 6 :) I still remember the first time I ever watched this and the feelings included. Can't wait for the next episode as well :D

Other Boy Reactions

I love how Tara is frequently used as a vague oracle. She sums up this season with the lyric, “Everything is turning out so dark” in Walk Through the Fire.

Anonymous

Does anyone know whats going on with buffy? The next episode is out but on the higher teir, is that an error or where its gonna be from now on?

Gwenhwyfar Aine

Someone who pays to watch Buffy reactions said this episode is skip-able? Wtelf?

Jordan Haddow

I know, right. They probably did it just to get the comments section fired up. Nobody could not like this episode.

Grace

Yayyyyyyy is all I can sayyyyy

Leora Nechama

I'm a big fan of musicals and write some myself so I love that this was all original lyrics and this episode really moves the story along. I like the subtext with Under Your Spell that Tara really was under a forgetting spell.

Leora Nechama

Also if you like musicals please react to the movie Anna and the Apocalypse! It's Christmas themed so perfect time of year for it.
