Ohh, boy... here we go!

Primus

I haven't even watched it yet. And I already have my heart broken when you said the family is back.. omg here we go!

Ghost Mom

Trust me; as a lesbian, this episode was very difficult when it aired. Our gay couples never survive shows and this proved to be the same, it's heart breaking, In retrospect I consider this episode the best episode of the entire series because of all the conversations we get, finches speech and ofcourse the deaths of two beloved characters which kicks off the final arc of the series. I feel characters needed to die for there to be stakes, for Harolds mistakes to mean something. Like you said about your problem with Harold, he did this to himself with the choices he made, and now he's finally realized what it truly cost and that's why I find this episode so powerful. I can recite Harolds speech about his rules because I've watched it so many times. That's a man who has finally broken. The fact he never got an emmy nod for that performance is a crime,

Please don't make this about lesbian or not. Root's death was foreboding for a long time and she said so herself - at the life I've led a clean death would be an honour. She died protecting the ones she loved.

This episode gets a 10 from me. I still get chills whenever I hear Harold's speech and Root's voice on the phone. Also not emotional? haha. All I see is you on a rollercoaster of emotions, during and after the episode when you are looking back at what happened :D

This season was given 13 episodes instead of 22. So I think they had to tell a story made for 22 episodes in only 13.

Before i start watching and read other comments i just wanna say the title of patreon post is 5x11 while the episode is 5x10, i spent 10 minutes trying to find the 10th episode before realising this is the one :D

They had a lot of things working against them this season, in the beginning not knowing if they where going to get canceled or not, having CBS require them to keep the number of the week premise for most of the episodes and having to work around Sarah's schedule, they started shooting with her only 3 months after giving birth to twins. I believe all the scenes in the detention facility with her where shot in LA so she could be close to home. I have a lot of issues with some of the quality of this season but this episode is not one of them. Root and Shaw are my favorite characters and I really wish they had a full season so we could have had a little more time with them together but this is the ending of the series and as much as I hate Root dying I think it works well for the rest of the season.

The show was going to get canceled after this season

Inseriousity

Love this episode, mainly because of Harold's speech. What a chilling moment.

I read some where that the writers wanted root to "merge" with the machine to fight against another ASI. From the first season, Root wanting to free the machine, to becoming the "analog" of the machine. And in season 5, she is literally the voice of the machine.

Sirens blaring, automatic gunfire in the background, 600 dangerous criminals released from the jail; I believe this is what Elias was talking about when he said "It's always the quiet ones we have to be careful of." Now that quote isn't exactly true. It's more like: "it's the people whose moral core has been broken are the ones we have to be careful of." You can feel the disappointment followed by determination in Finch's voice when he's talking to Samaritan. His moral compass has been constant: he doesn't kill people or hurt innocent people. But he's seen that his adamance has lead Team Machine to. Which is why he did something we would never expect him to do: ask the Machine to let him go. The result we can see at the end of the episode. This maybe an unpopular opinion: Root and Elias had to have been killed for Finch to realize the grave mistakes of his ways. He wouldn't have turned around otherwise, which he didn't at the start of the episode.

Re: moment with Root. Both Finch and Shaw had their moments with Root in this episode. Root and Shaw when they were shooting their way to save Finch and Root and Finch during the car ride.
