This episode changes your perspective on the story as a whole, especially seeing this Season through Castiel's eyes. I thought this episode was a masterpiece that fit it all together and it is such a solid foundation for the final two episodes. I loved this one :)

The thing with Crowley is he wants to remain King of Hell and the only way to do that and secure that position is making a deal with Castiel. Castiel wants to win a civil war in Heaven and Crowley loaned him 50,000 souls to help fight Raphael and his army. Castiel already took the souls and is in bed with Crowley at this point. What does Crowley want? To remain in power and all around half of what Castiel gets from Purgatory--it's a win-win for both parties.

I've never commented before but for some reason I feel compelled to on this one. This episode is the reason I think that Ben Edlund remains the best at writing Cas. I actually really love the VO dialogue in this episode; much of it is almost poetic in a way. "Freedom is a length of rope. God wants you to hang yourself with it," is one of my absolute favorite lines from this show.

This episode is a masterpiece of television I don't know what you watched but it's a definite 10 for me. The voiceover is a conversation he had with God and not just narration for narration' sake. The way all pieces fitted together is impressive. While this season seems a little worse, when you look at this episode it makes it all worth it. I guess he has so many shows that he misses a lot of things, its just too bad. Thanks for the reaction though.

Daniel R

Definitely. Kinda frustrating that he goes "what's happening" and then he immediately goes to play with his phone or the lights lol he's going to miss appreciating this season before he gets into 7 because damn now that's a bad season

Primus

Really? I quite like season 7; its unique in many ways.

It's definitely my least favorite. Not sure if you watch any other Supernatural reactors but I watch Dakara Jayne and she's one of those fangirls that loves everything; Shirtless Dean = 10/10, the boys are crying = 10/10, Bobby says 'idjit' = 10/10. But even she's like okay we gotta get through Season 7 because she almost tapped out of the series a few times lol so it can't just be me. She made it to Season 11 but 7 was her least favorite as well. There are some good episodes for sure but it overall falls flat for me.

Meh. I hate fans like that. That mostly watch the show because they like Dean. Thats why probably they don't like it. I hate Dean fangirls. As for season 7 i like monsters a lot. Some new characters... you know what im talking about. I love the middle arc. And the end arc. Haha. Season 7 my be one of my favourites.

The Winchesters have a "My way or highway" "Black or White" mindset.. They fail to see other perspectives, which is why Dean and Sam argue so much because they can't see each other perspective often.. this is happening with Cas. They never care what he is going through, only when they need his help or if his enemy is their enemy.

LOL Steven...they didn’t have snow on purpose. They got unlucky with the weather. It happens again a few times in later seasons where they had a surprise snowfall that stick to the ground. I went in thinking I would give a 10. Steven is right that a few scenes drag a bit because it’s so exposition heavy since they are recounting Cas’s full season in one episode. So maybe 9.5. Great acting in this episode. On a first watch, the voiceover may feel odd because it’s so different from the regular Supernatural. Overall I love how Ben Edmund crafted the episode and we get the full effect since he got to both write and direct. It’s just something to behold, watching - Cas’s anguish over heaven’s battle and deceiving the hunters - Cas fiercely protecting the boys from Crowley - the betrayal felt by Bobby, Sam and especially Dean

My thing about the boys and Bobbie being angry at Cas is they never once asked him why he was even in a civil war with Raphael. They have no idea that Raphael’s first order of business was to get Micheal and Lucifer out of the cage and restart the apocalypse. And honestly I’m not sure they would win a second fight. They think it’s just about opening purgatory but it’s about the war.
