We are finally at this superb episode. :)

The reason this isn’t the season finale but feels like it is, is because originally it WAS the season finale. The writers were contracted for 13 episodes but part way through production the crew of Chuck got additional funding for more episodes. I’m not sure why the network did this, but that’s why this episode feels like the finale, because it was supposed to be. The next 5 episodes were ones the writers had to cobble together to re-setup a new season finale. The same thing also happened in season 4, where everything kinda gets resolved but because the same thing happened, we get an extra mini arc for the actual finale. Hope this explained things for you Steven :)

Furthermore, this was actually written as a potential series finale, and like Steven says it would have been a perfect ending at this point. I just want to say, though, that even though they didn't have that much time setting up the rest of the season, it's some of my favourite TV out there. The next episode is tremendous and there's so much great stuff to come.

I loved your reaction. I just want to say a couple of things regarding Shaw's plan. I think he initially took her to the facility at the beginning to kill Sarah, but there's a small detail that's hard to notice that happens. While Shaw is aiming his gun at Sarah he sees a reflection of a flashlight in the TV monitor. He instantly sheathes his gun because he knows there are people behind him. I think his plan might have been to kill her right then and there since it would definitely still send a message to the CIA. Then when he had to make a new plan, what better way to send a message to the CIA than to kill Sarah at the place her red test was done? Shaw had spent every waking hour since his wife's death taking down the Ring because he thought they had been responsible for his wife's death. Learning that it was in fact the organization he'd devoted his life to that had ordered it, it makes perfect sense for him to want revenge. I love a nuanced villain, because you can clearly see that Shaw is very conflicted with what he's doing. He also didn't tell the Ring that Chuck's the intersect, and Shaw also said that he didn't want to hurt Chuck, because "none of this was his fault". The music as well is just phenomenal yet again. This episode is probably the best or next best episode thus far. 11/10 for me.

It'd also be quite interesting to hear what your favourite episodes are so far of the show. I've seen you do that on a few other shows and just thought it might be cool to see.

Since the show was constantly in danger of cancellation, it rarely got full-length season orders off the bat, so it usually got a standard 13-episode order, and then, in this case, a "back 6" order. That's kind of typical broadcast network behavior. Anyway, it was so on the bubble, they really thought this would likely be their series finale. And yep, I agree, it would've been a GREAT finale. But I am glad it wasn't the end after all. :)

Also, one more thing i'd like to add. I don't know if you remember, but last episode Shaw said something along the lines of: "If you're asking me if i'd trade my life to find the man who killed my wife, the answer would be yes." Everything he was doing was about avenging his wife's murder.

One of my favorite episodes (me an everyone else's it would seem). Yes it definitely would have been perfect for a Series finale (not just a season finale) and as many have said, the writers thought this would be it, so that's what they did. There was a split second there in the hotel at the end, when Sarah says "you killed him" i was afraid they would continue that ridiculous logic they put on Sarah's these past few episodes about Chuck killing anyone.... but thankfully they didn't. Despite this being like a series finale, the next episodes to the actual finale, are actually very good. Looking forward to you seeing them.

Ive always wondered if in the beginning Shaw was trying to turn Sarah
