I like the proposal and how it worked in the dynamic of their relationship, he was kidding around a couple times, tried making a big proposal but got upstaged, and now he hadn't seen her in a long time and felt they were distant and couldn't bear it. I thought it worked out well, but I get why a big proposal would've been great too.

That convenience store scene cost $250K, the most elaborate set in the shows run. They built that store specifically for that one scene instead of choosing an actual location to shoot at.

Reed James

It was a great proposal. It shows what mattered. They didn't need it to be super romantic.

Daniel R

I agree the proposal was lame but it works for them since they're two incredible "lame" characters after they got together. The proposal happened too late in the show imo

Light Yagami

It’s a little confusing for me bc you were laughing and chuckling quite a bit throughout the reaction and then when it was over you say, “it wasn’t funny, I didn’t laugh at all”?

Your good to feel the way you do, it was meant as a subtle moment of Jim realizing how important Pam was and the small ways didn't work and the grand gesture did not work, so showing Jim would always meet Pam in the middle, becomes a symbolic move, that only pays off with backstory on how they put the scene together.

I give it an 8, you are spot on with your critique, but for me, the simplest way is the best way for Jim and Pam and as long as Pam was caught off guard. Your score is probably closer to the truth, but sentimentality wins out some times.

The onehub thing works really well! It loads quite fast and the image is much more clear in my opinion. The proposal wasn't that memorable, but just wait until you get to the wedding. Those episodes are amazing, and they completely make up for all the anticlimax of the proposal. Hang in there everyone!

I thought the same thing too, but the Jim and Pam relationship arc goes to so many depths that in the context of their whole relationship, it makes a lot of sense

I truly appreciate that Steven is honest with his audience, but often it's hard for a big Office fan like myself to see how he is unimpressed or indifferent to some of the best parts of the show.

I watched this through OneHub. It was pretty good. I think you should use it more.

couldn't of said it better myself. especially when he was talking about the proposal. I actually love that they did it like this. Its soo raw and shows right they are for each other and how strong their feelings are that a trivial thing like the location and circumstance is just that - trivial. that's just me, i still enjoy the reactions though, i'm just bummed out for him, that he couldn't see it that way and experience through those lenses

Only person I know to not like the proposal ever I mean wow

Ignore the comments. As far as I know anyone who has seen Parks and Rec first doesn't like Office as much. I am the same way. Jim and Pam are always underwhelming. I am probably going to get attacked for saying this lol. You like what you like and people shouldn't be lamenting about it.

Totally respect your opinion about the proposal and I can see why you feel that way watching them like this. From my perspective, I think the emotion around it was just different when the show was airing. At the time, Jim and Pam were a huuuuuuge deal in the fan base and them getting together was wild, I remember everyone talking about it finally happening. We were all waiting for the proposal to come and anticipating how it would happen and they dropped this on us which was so, so unexpected and unconventional. I remember thinking at the time how perfect it was precisely because it was so unorthodox and unexpected... and now I think that I love it because it wasn't in front of anyone, in such a plain setting, and the special thing isn't anything but the fact that they love each other so much. Just my perspective! But I totally get it, in another context it can seem very anticlimactic :-)

Colleen T McClintock

I love both but still like The Office just as much, maybe more. Might be 'cause it's the original of the two to do it like this so I'm biased. Parks & Rec is still incredible. But you're right, personal taste is personal taste!
