I remember being at the video store when I was 12, and my dad telling me to rent this movie because I'll love it. What a great dad. If you like these 80s Comedies, then I would highly recommend you check out Ghostbusters if you haven't seen it before.

Mark Wood

It's called "Breaking the Fourth Wall". And there are several shows and films that use these technique. On tv my favorite examples were 80's Moonlighting, 90's comedy Malcolm in the Middle and the very recent Fleabag, those shows did it fairly regularly, and others did as well, and several shows do an episode hear or there that will. Movies currently the 2 Deadpool films spring to mind. I do see it more often in tv though.

Yes, Chicago. Most John Hughes films are set in the Chicago area as that is where he grew up. If you'll notice, a banner in the school hallway says Go Shermer. And, if you'll recall, Shermer was the town in Breakfast Club. He wasn't covering his eyes in the shower, he was covering OUR eyes. Now that you've seen this, maybe you'll begin to recognize how often this movie is referenced in other media. Same goes for Breakfast Club. Do you recall a band called Save Ferris? Yep, name taken from this film. As for other movies to check out: Red Dawn (80s original, not reboot), Dirty Dancing, They Live, HEATHERS, Night of the Comet, Sixteen Candles, Weird Science, Pretty in Pink, Some Kind of Wonderful, Real Genius. Stopping now, but I could go on and on.

I love these 80s movie reactions. It would be fun if you could react to some more “Brat Pack” (what the stars of theBreakfast Club and some of their costars were referred as) movies. Red Dawn and Pretty in Pink were mentioned earlier but I would also like to suggest St. Elmos Fire. I consider it Breakfast Club 2 since that movie never happened.

Crystal Laherrere

Oh just thought of some fantasy movies for you. Legend (with the girl who played Sloane) and Willow. I’m sure there are more but those are my favorites.

Marissa Brady

Yay for more 80's movies!! Are you going to do the original star wars movies? Two of them actually came out in the 80s. So did Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the lost ark and Ghostbusters. Not to mention Teen Wolf! So many good movies to react to!For me, the 80's and the 90's had the best movie releases. I really enjoyed your reaction to Ferris Bueller's day off. It is not my all time favorite movie, but I enjoyed many of the scenes in the movie. I know that everyone is supposed to love Ferris, but my favorite character wound up being Cameron. Looking forward to watching the next 80's movie reaction!

Ryan Wilson

When it comes to teen films, no one will ever do it better than John Hughes.

FernWithy

There's a crack theory out there that there is no such thing as Ferris, and the whole thing happens in Cameron's head--that Ferris is his creation to entertain himself. I don't know if I buy it, but it's entertaining.

Daniel R

If you haven't seen the original Predator (1987) or The Thing (1982) I recommend!

I watched on OneHub and while it's not as crisp as Vimeo (where I normally watch), I can definitely live with it. The movie is fine and crisp, but you're just not as crisp and clear. Again, could just be me and absolutely something I can live with if you switch over to OneHub. To me, this movie is SUCH a classic. Ferris is like if Kevin from Home Alone grew up and became a popular, cool, and rebellious after all those years of being left behind and it's awesome. (edit: I wrote this before you even made that comment at the end of the movie! Great minds...) Rooney (who should definitely be charged AND fired) is the complete opposite of Vernon (the principal from The Breakfast Club) Mia Sara (Sloane) was in a lot of movies in the 80's - 90's, but at first glance, she kind of favors Natalia Dyer who plays Nancy in Strangers Things. Pull their pictures up, and they don't look that much alike, but if pulling from member, you might see somewhat of a resemblance. She *does* also kind of look like Amber from Love is Blind. Breaking the Fourth Wall isn't the most common thing in movies and tv shows, but I feel like it's something that became popular in the 80's and 90's. Some shows/movies can pull it off, while others make it cheesy. Mark listed some examples above, but another popular one is the show Saved by the Bell, where Zack, the main character does it multiple times each episode. A lot of the times, there's no pause and it's supposed to be like everyone else doesn't notice it, but with Saved by the Bell, Zack says "time out" every time he breaks the fourth wall which does pause everything going on around him. When he's done, he says "time in." I second the Teen Wolf recommendation, especially since you're watching the TV series and it's *completely* different from the movie. Other recommendations would be Beetlejuice, The Fifth Element (one of my favorite movies of all time), The Karate Kid (there's 3 in the original trilogy and then a more recent reboot), Ghostbusters and Galaxy Quest.

The OneHub link didn't work for me, I was given a fuzzy screen preview with option to click download. Apparently it needs Adobe Flash to play.so got an error there. To give an anecdotal eample of download from it OneHub told me over 4 hours, Vimeo under 15 minutes, DropBox under 4 minutes (to download rather than copy to my DB).

Rumpus Parable

On the topic of the film itself: One of my absolutely all-time favorites. Loved it as a kid/early-teen, love it now.

cryptc

Not many movies have this many fourth wall breaking as this, I mostly remember some small easter eggs, like the James Bond wilm with George Lacenby (the first one not starring Sean Connery) and something happened to break up a romantic scene and he's looking to the camera being like "This never happened to the other fella" As for other movie suggestions, I think the comedy "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" (1988) is a must see if you haven't seen it.

Mandzipop

I love 80's movies. There's an innocence about them that just doesn't work these days. My faves are Lost Boys, Stand By Me, License to Drive, Dirty Dancing, Breakfast Club, Young Guns (1&2), Mannequin and Weird Science.

Will

I'll re-state my requests for Lost Boys and Stand By Me, but I'll add another for WarGames (another Matthew Broderick one). It's very different to Ferris Bueller, but I like it a lot.

Rob Flynn

I'd be most excited for Lost Boys or War Games but would be happy with either of those three. Great moves!

Nica Marie

I think part of why you feel a similarity between this and Home Alone is because both are written by John Hughes. And you comparing it to Ned's Declassified is interesting as this movie inspired 2 tv shows. The first being Ferris Bueller which was cancelled fairly quickly and is usually only noted for having a young Jennifer Aniston as Jeanie. The second being Parker Lewis Can't Lose which lasted several seasons. Yes, I watched both and can say Parker Lewis was the superior show.

Heidi Elizabeth Marcum

I would love it if you could react to the Indiana Jones Trilogy, as well as all of the Die Hard movies if you've never seen them before. Also... I would love it if you could watch and react to Casablanca with Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman, and Gone With the Wind starring Vivian Leigh and Clark Gable. I know that Gone With the Wind is a very long movie. However, it is one of the biggest classic movies of all time, and it's absolutely beautiful. :)

Maxwell Long

"Yo this has gotta be New York - I'm getting such New York vibes" - - - lol my guy that's the possibly arguably superior Great Second City of Chicago. So many of those New York vibes without the dirty. But I get it. There's pride in being New York.

GHOSTBUSTERS NEXT PLEASE

Teresina

Omg, Beetlejuice! 😱 If he hasn’t seen that he has to react to it! It’s one of my all time favorites! I love Tim Burton. I’ve suggested this one before btw, after his Goonies reaction, I think.

Teresina

Have you ever seen Young Frankenstein? It’s from the 70’s, not the 80’s (1974 to be exact), and it’s one of best comedies of all time (no, I’m not going to qualify this by saying IMO). I bought a vintage movie poster of this one right after Gene Wilder passed away a few years ago, but it isn’t signed by him unfortunately (cuz I’m not rich).

Magus

"Inspector Gadget looking ass" lol perhaps this is how he got that live action role for the 1999 movie?

Rumpus Parable

Indiana Jones Trilogy, yes!! But with HEAVY EMPHASIS on the "Trilogy" part.... there is no fourth movie. There is no fourth movie. Die Hard films would be neat for them to do - I got to watch Die Hard for last Christmas as one of the holiday films a theater in London that regularly plays older films... I'd forgotten how great that was and how great an Xmas movie it was lol. Left all energized and happy ha!

Rumpus Parable

It's newer, but while on suggesting.... if no one has shown you it, everyone needs a friend who will have them watch Dancer in the Dark. Do no research. It's a rather weird and slow but emotionally paced musical with Bjork in the lead role.... phenomenal acting all the way around and it builds to leaving you afterwards finding yourself knowing you have to be the friend to have a friend watch it.... especially to watch their reactions. Sorry, gotta be vague and just in case: no one else give spoilers!!

Tim Pierce

Three of my favorite comedies of all time. Can't Hardly Wait, Empire Records, or PCU, assuming you haven't seen them, I would love for you to watch.

Edward Williams

Great reaction. I dont know if u saw these before.. The Golden child,Beverly hills cop, gremlins, speed,Bill & Teds adventure... Maybe you try 1 of these 1 day.

Will

Oh, I have another suggestion! My Cousin Vinny. It's a 1992 film starring Joe Pesci, Ralph Macchio, and Marisa Tomei and it's a lot of fun! A really good comedy-drama.
